General Reflections on the Course

Over I felt the course was well done. The modules are set up in an easy-to-follow
manner. I enjoyed watching the videos and reading all the materials posted throughout
the modules. I really enjoyed both books. However, Mr. Lee’s book was far superior to
Mr. Yang’s book (In my opinion). If I have to critic something, that is going to have to be
the books. I mean I enjoyed the book a lot. I read both of them within two weeks. There
lies my issue, I read the books a bit too soon, so I had a hard time during the quizzes.
Because I finished the books so soon. However, I did well on all quizzes. As I mention
earlier my favorite book was the AI Superpowers. I felt the book was well written and the
words resonated with me. I feel that is because I felt Mr. Lee speaking from his heart.
He also wasn’t trying to scare us like Mr. Yang tried. But overall, I truly enjoyed he
course, and we recommend the course to my peers. My only recommendation is to
change the first module to the last and the last to the first (I mean module 5 to module 1
and vice versa). This way we take the course with us and are more worried about our
future.
2. Provide Feedback on the Value of Module 1
I feel module 1 started with the Yang perspective. I mean I feel the module was
designed to scare us. We started the class by reflecting on the dangers of AI (Yang,
2018). I feel this module could be done different. I think the modules should be flipped.
Let’s start with the advantages and end with a caution.
3. Provide Feedback on the Value of Module 2
The second module was done well in my opinion. During this module we focused on the
great displacement. I feel module presented a lot of interesting information and every
pint was well sourced.
4. Provide Feedback on the Value of Module 3
The third module was on the sociological impact of AI. I felt this module was done well.
The information presented was impactful and the pint was carried across. My biggest
impact from the module was the point on letting machine make life or death
determinations.
5. Provide Feedback on the Value of Module 4
The fourth module was also well done as the third. I feel all the points were again driven
well into our knowledge based. My main take away from this module is Mr. Kai-fu Lee
life chancing experience with being ill with cancer. The final chapters from Mr. Lee’s
book (AI Superpowers China, Silicon Valley and the new world order) mostly deal with
human emotion, specifically empathy (Lee, 2012). Mr. Lee’s main point is that empathy
cannot ever be given AI. Empathy is a human emotion.
Mr. Lee talks about changing the way he now conducts business. His main goal now is
not just to make money. Now his life is geared to spend quality time with him family and
to relay compassion and empathy for all those around him. Mr. Lee change of heart was
cause not only by his illness. But also, by the realization that life is about human
connect.
6. Provide Feedback on the Value of Module 5
I feel module five was a reinforcement of the previous chapters. I enjoyed the videos
and feel I am better informed about the issues. I learned I am not a big fan of the UBI. I
also don’t like Mr. Yang’s ideas of the social point system. I think that is a bit dumb if I
may be honest. However, I feel Mr. Lee’s approach is much better developed. I like the
idea of AI paying to industries that deal in love and kindness to others. I like the idea of
being able to be paid to help my ailing mother or other loved one.
7. Provide Feedback on the Value of Module 6
The last module was all on us to formulate our own opinion. I really enjoyed that! I feel
this was a necessity, you throughout the course give us all the tools needed to make up
our mind and then challenge or ideas and redefine them. I really like it when a course
gives me the facts and allows me to make up my own opinion. Thank you for giving us
the opportunity to express how we feel and how we plan to deal with the new revolution.
I feel a bit more prepared.
