the 6 Region 1 Tourism Convention focuses on the contribution of the tourism sector as a catalyst in
reaching the Sustainable Development Goals providing the leading source of employment and
sustainable economic growth.

As the UNWTO Secretary General Zurab Pololikashvili states in his official message for the World
Tourism Day, “The true potential of tourism, both as a creator of jobs and as a driver of equality and
sustainable development, is only just being realized. Providing decent work opportunities and
contributing to developing professional skills are at the heart of this. Well managed, the continued
growth of our sector will encompass countless opportunities and allow tourism to live up to its global
social responsibility to leave no one behind’.

The Department of Tourism Region 1 recognizes the contribution of our tourism industry partners
from the public and private sectors in their concerted efforts in developing and managing tourism in
the region and maximizing its full potential. With the purpose to foster awareness among the tourism
stakeholders of tourism’s social, cultural, political and economic value, the Convention has provided
an avenue for tourism practitioners to exchange ideas, discuss issues and challenges in the industry
while strengthening the cooperation amongst its tourism stakeholders towards the development,
promotion and sustainability of tourism in the region.

Attended by some four hundred participants from the various Local Government Units of the region
including industry players from the travel and tours, transport, tour guides, accommodation, tourism
associations and related businesses, the academe and national government agencies, the three-day
activity include a general assembly for the various sectors of the industry, a plenary learning session
and an industry immersion tour to featured destinations of the host province.

This year’s three day activity will be held in collaboration with the Provincial and Local Government
Units of Pangasinan and will be held on 17-19 October 2019 at the MMX Events Center, Magic Mall in
Urdaneta City, Pangasinan. The convention will be highlighting Pasyar Pangasinan: Eastern and
Central Circuit in three (3) tour options showcasing its farm, culture, adventure and culinary
attractions.

The Industry Immersion Tour is open to all registered delegates. Delegates have to select one (1) of the tour options.
However, due to limited slots per tour, delegates are advised to also include their 2nd option in case their 1st option is fully
booked at the time of their registration.

Pre- registered delegates are also required to confirm their reserved slots upon arrival and registration at the Region 1
Tourism Convention Secretariat at the MMX Events Center, Magic Mall Urdaneta City, Pangasinan on October 17, 2019 from
10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Delegates are also advised to wear convention t-shirt during the tours which will also be issued during
the registration as part of the convention kit. Walk in delegates are not guaranteed of available slots for the tours.

Assembly area for all tour options is at the old Urdaneta City Hall near the MMX Events Center, Magic Mall Urdaneta City,
unless otherwise specified by the designated tour coordinators during the registration. Drop off after the tour will also be at
the Old City Hall for the Closing Ceremonies.
