Security Guard

Role: Ensuring the safety of people and property by employing any and all means necessary so that
the day-to-day activities of the institution can be carried out in a smooth manner.

Key Accountabilities:
• Regulating entry of people by maintaining a record of visitors to prevent unauthorized access
to the premises.
• Managing the parking lot by guiding the drivers/visitors to avoid traffic congestion.
• Being observant of the happenings in the surrounding areas in general and within the
compound in particular by performing routine inspections to safeguard the premises.
• Protecting people and property by using metal detectors and monitoring security cameras to
ensure the safety of the premises.

Working Relationships:
Internal:
Housekeeping staff/Gardener/Building maintenance staff: Understanding the timings of the building
maintenance staff and giving them access to the property after verification of their identities so that
they are able to discharge their duties and keep the property in top shape.
Personal Drivers of executives: Coordinating with drivers of staff and guests to understand their arrival
and departure time so as to ensure parking availability and prevent traffic congestion.
Receptionist: Awareness of the scheduled appointments of the day by working closely with the
receptionist to ensure a hassle-free experience for visitors.
External:
Local Police station: Contact with the local police by building rapport with officers to ensure timely
help in case of an emergency.
Fire brigade: Interaction with the fire brigade through visits to understand safety precautions and first
response measures in case of a fire emergency.
Nearby Hospital and Ambulance services: Keeping handy the contact numbers of hospitals and
ambulance drivers by visiting all nearby healthcare facilities to ensure an immediate response in case
of a medical emergency.

Person Specification
Knowledge:
• Knowledge of basic security and fire inspection procedures.
• Knowledge of operating the devices like metal detectors, fire extinguishers, and CCTV
cameras.
• Knowledge of local language and the geography of the area.

Skills:

• Observation skills: Being proactive and observing how things behave.


• Attention to details: Being alert to security events and remember actions to provide accurate
reports.
• Problem solving skills: The ability to determine the source of a problem and find an effective
solution.
Abilities:
• To manage the parking space of the building for smooth entryway of the visitors
• To maintain the logbook for maintaining the safety and security of the premises
• To maintain a polite and calm approach with the visitors for maintaining a professional aura
Key Competencies:
• Good Verbal Communication: Clear communication can be a deciding factor in handling any
tricky situation, so ensuring that the security guard knows how to use his words well.
• Physical Fitness: It helps to perform daily activities with endurance and strength also keeps
the mind active, so ensuring that the guard is physically fit and active.
• Ability to work in Team: A teamwork might be needed while surveillance activities or work as
part of security team to reach a shared goal, hence ensuring that the guard has teamworking
skills.
