JULY 2022.
INTRODUCTION

The children arts and summer fiesta was a five (5) days program organize by

the Lagos state council for arts and culture. The program started on the 1 st of

august 2022 and lasted till on the 5th of august 2022.

Children arts otherwise known as children theatre as the name implies is a theatre

of the children, by the children, and for the children. The program of the Lagos

state council for arts and culture was designed and aimed at teaching the children

under the age of 8-15 years old (some children below and little above these age

also partake in the program) the indigenous music of Yoruba and its cultural

practices, the Yoruba language, the study of arts and craft, and generally to expose

the children to artistic values.

Objectives: the program was sets featuring on the following; entertainment like

music, dance, drama, talk shows, games and lot more. The children were asked

their various side of interest as they were separated into groups accordingly.

I was assigned to the music group which consists of ten children. The group was

spearheaded by Mr. Tunde Ijadunola assisted by Mr.; Oluwole, Miss Olayinka

Sole and myself Adah, Gabriel A.

DAY ONE

On the 1st of august, we recorded good numbers of children in attendance.

Arrival, welcoming, organizing the children took the most part of this day.

Introduction took place. The children were introduced to their timetable for the

program and the rules of the environment.

Not very much was achieve on this day as some of the children were a little

bit difficult to adapt into the activities. However, the group heads try to make

things easy by engaging those who could not cope into sub-activities.

In the music department, Miss Olayinka Sole introduces the children to two

songs namely: EKO AKETE and EKO ILE OGBON. We had little rehearsal on

this day generally to see those who could sing in parts, those who can take the lead

and the backups as well.

DAY TWO

The day timetable goes thus: 09:00-09:30 was set for breakfast, Aerobics/tea

session. While from 09:30-10:30 were arts and craft, and 10:30-11:30 Yoruba

lessons and cultural etiquette and then drama/music/dance took place from 11:30-

12:30. Thereafter was lunch time until 12:30-01:30. Drama/music/dance continued

till about 2:30 and then arts and craft took place till closing hour at 3:30.
The arts and craft class is a general class likewise the Yoruba class, in the arts

class the children were separated into two groups by age. The little ones were

asked to do a pencil drawing on a plain sheet. Drawing such as car, house, fish,

table, etc. while the grown up amongst them did crafting by sketching out their

palm and five fingers using scissors and carton.

DAY THREE

The children resume early and began to practice some of the things they

learnt in the past class on their own. We notice some new kids who had just joined

the program also.

The program continued on the existing timetable same activities but reschedule in

time. It was on Wednesday morning, there was morning exercise and games after

which they had their breakfast and move straight into the activity of the moment

which was the Yoruba class. On this day they practice their assignment, this praise

singing in the Yoruba language.

The Yoruba class is said to be the most interactive session. This is because

more attention is paid to details as some of the children were called out to repeat

what they were taught and also, in chorus they all respond and they were made to

sing the different kinds of Yoruba songs they know. This particular class was taken
by Mr. Kola Oluwafemi and assisted by Mr. Femi. I assisted also in controlling the

kids’ movement and help maintain absolute quietness.

In the music department on this day, we worked on the songs we already

have. The rehearsal was more intense, we rehears with a keyboard and a talking

drum. One of the kids was appointed to take the lead chorus while the rest respond.

CONLUSION

The program was yet continued on the 4th day and on the 5th as the grand

finale. I was not available on these days, reason been that it was my schedule dates

for my CDS and monthly clearance. Although, from the report of my colleagues

who were in attendance, it was said that the program was success the children

learnt so much, had maximum fun especially on the grand finale. It was enlighten,

educating and entertaining.
