Congratulations for completing the requirements on our last quarter! This will be the last
quarter with our subject, HOPE, in Luis Palad Integrated High School. As we continue your
HOPE journey, We would like to WELCOME you again, Grade 12 students in our “New
Normal” way of studying Physical Education and Health.
For this 4th Quarter let us start your Weeks 1 and 2 of Health Optimizing Physical Education
(HOPE) 4. In this module, you are going to learn about the nature of different recreational
activities that are done outside or activities that are done along with Nature. The given
activities in this module can be done individually or with the help of family members or
friends while following the proper health protocols.
After going through this module, you are expected to:
1. identify the different Outdoor Recreational Activities that is done with nature;
2. perform “new normal” recreational activities then analyze the HRF component that will
be developed from doing it,
3. value or give time to recreational activities for a person’s holistic development.
What I Know
Before we proceed to our module, let us first answer this pre-test so we’ll know
what you already know. Let’s start!
PRE-TEST
I. Direction: Analyze each picture below. Identify where each recreational activities were
conducted by considering the place where it can be played or done. Choose from Air, Land
and Water. Write your answer on the provided activity sheet.
What’s In
It’s been years since we reconnect ourselves with Nature. As time goes by, we are
starting to get back on track! Shops, Parks, Mountains, Terrains and other places that offers
recreational activities are starting to reopen their doors to the people. But this doesn’t
mean that we would go back to where people don’t wear masks, of course we still have to
protect ourselves. There is still a pandemic happening, this is why establishments
implement the Guidelines given by the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF). With that, people
can now reconnect with their friends, family, relatives, oneself, and with nature by hanging
out or going out safely. In this module, you will discover activities that you can do with your
loved ones and learn how these types of recreational activities affects your health. Before
we proceed with Lesson 1, you need to recall first what you have learned from last quarter.
RECAP!
Direction: Remember and write down what you’ve learned from our last quarter. Then
explain how you accomplished it.

Activity 1: Flashback!
Direction: Read and answer the following questions in another sheet of paper. Write your
answer on the provided activity sheet.

experience. (If you don’t have experienced camping, imagine you are going to camp,
what do you want to experience in camping?)

Recreational Definition
Activity
Hiking It is an outdoor activity where there are clear paths to follow.
Paths are usually beautifully charted with signs so that hikers
won’t get lost along the trails. Natural hiking trails serve as guides
of the hikers to their destinations. It is usually shorter than
trekking.
Trekking This outdoor activity is a longer journey on foot compared to
hiking. The activity is quite challenging, allowing the trekkers to
pass through an uncharted path. Sometimes, this will take within a
few days or weeks. Usually, undeveloped places are explored in
trekking where there is a close-up view of the wonders of nature.
Camping Camping is an enjoyable outdoor activity that allows you to
experience simple adventures outside your homes. It allows a lot
of moving since it involves activities like carrying backpacks, hiking
and most of all pitching of tents. This activity lets your experience
interaction and bonding with others while engaging in different
educational activities.
Orienteering It is an outdoor activity that requires you to follow a specific
sequence of pre-set course with the help of navigating devices,
specifically maps and compass to go through an unfamiliar terrain.
Aside from physical, this activity requires mental toughness to be
able to reach the expected destination.
You can always make your own version of these recreational activities inside your
home, or withing your subdivision / compound (especially the camping and orienteering
activities). Even a simple household chore can be converted into something that will give
you and your loved ones an avenue to enjoy, relax and bond with one another during this
pandemic.
Outdoor activities have many health benefits, such as promoting physical activity and
could play a role in stress management and mental health. However, the outdoor
environment can be challenging for human physiology. Therefore, preparations are needed
before the start of the activity in order to prevent any potential responses to different
environmental challenges during outdoor activities and how to better prepare for them in
the wild.
The parameters of the human physiology include the Heart Rate, Blood Pressure,
Body Temperature, Rate of Perceived Exertion, and other more. These should be monitored
especially when you need to prepare for a certain activity that exerts effort on the human
body. The parameters will be measured by knowing first what kind of environment you will
encounter on your target venue.

Activity 2: My RPE!
Direction: Do the following activities and rate your RPE from scale 1 to 10. Use the RPE scale
