Mid-Semester 1 Progress Report (2021-2022)

VVS teachers evaluate their students using grade component categories specific to their discipline and class. They select the weighting given to each
category when calculating the class grade. These categories can be seen in the My School App Gradebook.

The IB Core classes (TOK/Certificate Candidate; CAS, and Extended Essay) receive grades of P (Pass), F (Fail), or PH (Pass with Honors).
English Literature 4 Beth Suby

The past six weeks in English have been devoted to engaging with our summer reading text, writing the Common App essay, and analyzing a 4 page poem.
After Field Expeditions, we will immerse ourselves in our first fiction novel, There There by Tommy Orange and a nonfiction novel, The Diving Bell and
the Butterfly by Jean Dominique Bauby.

Environmental Systems & Societies 1 Caleb Kulfan

Environmental Systems and Societies is a course that seeks to examine the natural world and to explore our impacts on it. In this semester students are
introduced to a variety of key terms, concepts, and ideas that will make up the foundational language they will use moving forward in this course. In addition

We started this year with the very basics of Functions. The students were able to learn what is considered a function, how to write an equation in function
notation, how to draw graphs of functions on their Graphic Display Calculator (GDC), how to find the Domain and the Range of a function, how to combine
functions and how to find the inverse of a function. The students' mid-term grade reflects the work that they did on this topic. After learning the basics of
functions, we have moved on to more specific functions. We learned all about linear functions and the different forms in which linear functions can be
written. We have now moved on to quadratic functions and all of their different forms. After Field Expeditions, we will learn how to solve quadratic
equations and then the students will be tested on this topic.

Daniele is still very new to my class and has had very little art practice before VVS. We will focus on fundamentals and find a medium he might have a
passion for.
