1. As a TESD Trainer, what are your considerations in planning the lay-out of your
workshop?
● Area of Workshop
● Physical Make-up Training Activities
● Size and Number of Training Equipment, Tools and Materials to be situated in the
area
● Electrical system (number and location of outlets, capacity)
● Safety requirement of equipment, tools, materials as per User’s Manual (space and
manner required while using or storing equipment, etc.)
● Location of First Aid Kits, Fire Extinguishers, etc.
● Number of Trainees
● Waste Disposal
Organizational Standards or Policies
4. What are the current practices in the disposal of generated wastes from training
activities in your school?
(Facilitator verifies information as per submitted report on the waste disposal system in
the school/organization)
5. How can you claim that you have well-conditioned training equipment in your
workshop?
• Safety guards are adequate and in placed
• Malfunctions and repairs are seldom
• Zero or very minimal accidents
• Complaints or negative reports are few
• Equipment are operational
• Use of equipment maximized but not overused or abuse
• Preventive Maintenance are undertaken regularly
• Inspection is done strictly
Contingency Questions
7. While trying to douse out a fire in a room, you found out that the fire extinguisher
that you first got hold on, is empty. Adjacent to the room is a stock of paints for
the ongoing rehabilitation of a building. What will you do?
• Determine if you can handle and have enough time to put off the fire. Find fire
extinguishers within the area and try to put off the fire.
• Cry for help or shout “fire” to alarm other people
If a phone is available, call and inform the fire department
• You have to check first and reclaim the equipment. If only the spare parts are for
disposal especially if not damaged, keep the useful parts for future use or endorse to the
authorized official (such as the Property Officer) for proper action.
• RA 6969 - Toxic Substances And Hazardous And Nuclear Wastes Control Act
• RA 9003 - Ecological Solid Waste Management Act
10. How will you ensure that training equipment and tools in your workshop are
secured considering that they can easily be brought out due to its small size?
• Provide adequate locks, chains, cabinets, control area, and similar mechanisms
• Let the school guard inspect the trainees before they leave the school
premises
Safety Questions
11. In the absence of a manufacturer’s manual, what are the other sources where you
can secure information in the operation of an equipment considering safety?
• Experts
• Users
• Trainers/Facilitators
• Internet
• Charts, Drawings
12. A trainee failed to wear his PPE while in the shop. He justified that he will not
work with the machines anyway so he can be excused. How will you deal with the
trainee?
• If the policy in the use of PPE has been established and the trainees were fully
informed, let the student do other training activities outside the workshop
• Remind the trainee that he is not allowed to be in the workshop whether or
not he will work with the machines since the PPE is a requirement to protect him and
his environment.
• Record his misdemeanor as reference for disciplinary action later if such action
will be repeated in the future.
• To be consistent, do not allow trainees who are not in PPE as required while in
the workshop, at the same time, provide example by wearing PPE yourself (Walk the
Talk)
13. Other than the use of PPE, what are the other safety precautions in the storage
and disposal of chemicals and similar substances?
• Read the labels of the chemicals/substances for proper use, storage and
disposal
• Provide storage space for the chemicals/ substances with proper labels and
warning signs Without the labels in the package or in the container:
• Conduct regular inspection; check leaks or any signs of damage; check expiry
date for disposal
• Dispose properly (refer to organizational policy, OSHS and provision of RA 9003)
Draw workshop layout with 9 learning areas (practical work area, institutional assessment area, quality
control area, training resource area, distance learning area, contextual learning resource area, support
service area, learning resource area, computer laboratory) and safety area like entrance and exit, fire
extinguisher, medicine cabinet, waste segregation.
The major maintenance activities in our school is prepare workshop layout and based form the layout
we prepare the housekeeping schedule and we validate it using housekeeping inspection checklist. An
effective flow chart is suggested to post in workshop to ensure that the process are observed.
In the event that there is defective equipment I prepare breakdown / repair report and put tag out
bill to indicate that the equipment is defective. We immediately prepare work request to repair the
defective equipment. These procedures are effective to ensure immediate repair of defective equipment.
We follow the ecological solid waste management law, by performing waste segregation we
divide our waste to Recycle, Compose and Dispose. In our institution we schedule a separate time in
collecting different type of waste daily and we store it in our material recovery facilities for proper disposal.
In our institution we perform a year round inventory for our tools equipment and consumables.
To ensure the functionality of each equipment in my workshop, I prepare equipment maintenance
schedule and we evaluate it using equipment maintenance inspection checklist.
