STAIRCASE WIRING
Aim
To wire up the circuit to control a lamp from two different places by two, 2-way switches.
2-way switch, junction boxes, PVC conduits, connecting wires, fuse, lamp, lamp holder, wire stripper,
line tester, insulation tape and test board circuit.

Procedure
1. Fix the conduits and the junction boxes on the work board as per the wiring layout.
2. Lay down the wires through the conduits as per the wiring diagram.
3. By connecting a series test lamp circuit check whether there is an open circuit or short circuit.
Testing Procedure
1. Connect the test board lamp in series with the circuit lamp by keeping the test lamp switch
open (OFF) and circuit lamp switch closed (ON).
2. The power rating of the lamp in the test board and in the wiring circuit should have same
wattage.
3. If there is an open circuit then both the lamps will not glow.
4. If there is a short circuit only the test board lamp will glow brighter and the circuit lamp will
not glow
5. When there is no fault in the circuit then both the lamps will glow with equally dim.
6. After testing the circuit, close the test lamp switch, and then operate the wiring circuit verify
the conditions.

RESULT:
CASE 1 :
The lamp GLOWS when the switches 1 and 2 are both turned on. In
this case the terminal C1 and D1 are connected.
CASE 2:
CASE-3:
The lamp GLOWS as the both switches are turned off. The flow
of current isn’t restricted in this case. The terminals C2 and D2 are connected. The
current flows and lamp glows.

CASE-4:
INFERENCE:
CASE 1 :
CASE 2:
The terminals C1 and D2 are used in this case. As the current flows
until switch one from power generator. In the case the switch 2 connects the phase
wire to D2 and the terminal C1 is connected to D1 in switch 2 the flow of current is
stopped in this case. So the bulb doesn’t glow.
CASE 3:
CASE 4:
The terminals C2 and D1 are used in this as the phase wire In switch
1 is connected to C2 terminal, As we can see C2 terminal is actually connected to D2
terminal. Coming to the switch 2 the phase wire is connected to D1 terminal.
Therefore the flow of current is restricted and the lamp doesn’t glow.
