August 2022 PETERSON PERSPECTIVE

Ministry update
After two years of online gatherings, we finally held an in-person event in our home! The
first group to gather was the Thursday morning Bible study. It was energizing to return to a
bit of normalcy … to make coffee, clean the living room, dining room and bathroom, and
welcome people into our home. The group continues to read the “Kingdoms” volume of
the Immerse Bible. Sue is preparing the group to continue meeting during our HA.
Sue and Karl both taught a Seminary course this spring. Sue taught the course “Connecting with God”, Karl taught
“Panorama of the Bible”. The seminary leadership team has decided that the courses will remain online, and will be for
quite a while. One reason is that the Mexico City traffic has returned to pre-pandemic levels, in other words bad.
Another reason is that we now have students from a larger geographic area than before the pandemic, so onsite teaching
is not practical.
Sue continues to minister within MAEM, currently she is leading an online “Mending the Soul” course, she continues to
lead the pastoral care team for leaders of MAEM small groups.

Minnesota, here we come!

We continue to prepare for our upcoming Home Assignment. Our to do list
has lots of tasks to complete before we can leave Mexico for one-year, like
selling our minivan, packing up our household belongings, finding a
storage place for all our Mexico stuff and renewing Sue’s Mexico resident
visa.

Our plan is to travel to Minnesota during the fourth week of August.

As we prepare to leave Mexico, we also prepare ourselves for life in Minnesota. We are grateful that a generous family
from First Covenant - St. Paul is letting us use their second vehicle for the year, our only cost will be insuring the vehicle.
It will be great to have dependable transportation to visit churches and get around town.
We just got confirmation that we can rent a 2 bedroom home near Minnehaha Academy. It is dog friendly and very
centrally located for visiting Sue’s Mom and visiting Twin Cities churches. God was gracious and generous in providing us
this home to rent.
We are still praying for one more specific need. Jonathan needs a vehicle for work and life in Minnesota. This is not a
ministry related need, but it is important that Jonathan find an affordable and reliable car so he can work and study in
Minnesota. If you have any leads let us know.
As ECC missionaries we are asked to be fully supported financially by local churches and
individuals. For the last fiscal year we met that goal! Gracias! The cost of sustaining the ECC
Serve Globally budget is a step of faith, please continue with your generous and faithful financial
support. We also depend on your prayers. Please note the recent changes regarding snail mail
giving and online giving options.

The ECC has a new address to receive financial support checks:

New Ministry Vehicle

During our Home Assignment we will be raising money for the
purchase of a new vehicle for our missionary ministry. We no
longer need a minivan for local ministry, so we are looking to
purchase a SUV upon our return that will get better gas
mileage and still be able to bring people to events etc.

You can use the link below to give online for our new ministry vehicle.

If you prefer to give via a check in the note line write: Mexico: Peterson Vehicle
Use the new address given above.

When can we visit your church?

One important task of Home Assignment is visiting the congregations
that have prayerfully and financially supported our missionary
ministry. For us that means finding dates that will work to visit 32
supporting churches and 7 individuals. We are excited to share what
God is doing in Mexico in and through the Covenant church.
We will be contacting you soon about what dates work best for a visit.
Family update
From July 12 to the 18th, we were in Chicago for Zachary’s official graduation
ceremony from Lincoln Tech. We were able to celebrate with Zachary this
accomplishment. Pray that Zachary can find a stable and rewarding job where
he can use his welding skills and have a steady income. The job market is
precarious right now with the economic downturn and high inflation.
Jonathan celebrated his 21st birthday in late May. He is looking forward to
returning to Minnesota with Mika. He recently has taken up “low budget weight
lifting” using 5 gallon buckets filled with sand and a curling bar. He is proud of
his results in his upper body. He has a lead to work for a landscaping business
when we arrive. He can not wait to make money and have his own car. Pray he
can make good friends and decide what he wants to study.

Gracias!
