2. Explain this statement “The Pen is Mightier than the Sword”.

The statement “Pen is Mightier than the Sword” explains the importance of writing and
communication through the use of pen by sharing knowledge, and indicating principles, than a
sword that mostly specifies hatred and war in expressing thought of freedom and justice. Pen
might be a small weapon but its contribution and influence to people is big especially in building
peoples’ strength in achieving freedom and improvement. It shows that violence can never be
an answer to overcome things that don’t come along someones way. The ideas and opinions
that emerge through a writer's pen may change peoples’ notion from brutality to compassion.
Just like Dr. Rizal, he chose to write his reformation and ideas than violence; and as a result
many people were able to be influenced and inspired from his works. It started a revolution
wherein people were not physically hurt and damaged.

Writing can change the entire nation, while war will always finish in despairs and destruction.
