–Immune System activity

Standard: SC.912.L.14.52: Explain the basic functions of the human immune system, including specific and
nonspecific immune response, vaccines, and antibiotics.

 Objective: SWBAT identify and/or explain the basic functions of the human immune system, including specific
and nonspecific immune responses.
Instructional Event 1: Bellwork

● Time: 5 min

● Teacher: Greet students at door, routines/procedures – attendance, pass out work, etc…, monitor discussions,
and facilitate responses in whole group. Display/administer pre-assessment.

Student: Answer the bellwork.


What is immunity? 
A. The body's ability to produce cells that inactivate foreign cells or substances.

B. The body's ability to regulate homeostasis through feedback loops. 

C. The body's ability to produce the "fight or flight" response.

D. The body's ability to use the endocrine system to fight disease.

Correct answer: A. The body's ability to produce cells that inactivate foreign cells or substances. The immune system
produces specific and non-specific responses to pathogens, and foreign cells and substances. This process helps
maintain homeostasis in individuals.

PPT to review Close reading strategies and guide the students through the article by chinking the content
and guide instruct them to complete the Biology Quarter 1 Unit 2 Day 6 Immune System student worksheet
as they complete Close reads 1-3.
