Competency: Construct a model of the solar system showing the relative sizes of the
planets and their relative distances from the Sun

Direction: Make/Construct you own model of the solar system.The following are the
suggested color and size of the planets.

Mercury (orange) – 3 cm Saturn (yellow with red ring) – 10 cm

Venus (yellow) - 5cm Uranus (green) – 8 cm
Earth (blue) – 5 cm Neptune (blue) – 8 cm
Mars (red) – 4 cm Sun (yellow) – 25 cm
Jupiter (brownish with a red spot) – 10 cm

Materials: Styrofoam balls, art paper/construction paper,

¼ illustration board, stick, glue, coloring materials

10 – The Models of the Solar System are completely, correct, creatively and
neatly done
8-9 The models of the Solar System are moderately correct and neatly done
7-6 - The models of the Solar System are averagely correct and creatively done
5-4 – The models of the Solar System are fairly correct, creatively & neatly done
3-2 – The models of the Solar System are partially correct & neatly done
1– The models of the Solar System are slightly done
