TỔNG QUAN VỀ WRITING TASK 2

● Thời gian: ít nhất 40 phút.
● Số từ tối thiểu: 250 từ.
● Số từ tối đa: Không có quy định về số từ tối đa, nhưng các bạn chỉ nên viết khoảng 300
từ đổ lại, không nên viết dài hơn.
● Cách tính điểm: chiếm HAI phần ba trong tổng điểm của kỹ năng Writing.

 ● Dạng câu hỏi:

1. Argument
Câu hỏi đề bài đưa ra: (To what extent) Do you agree or disagree? (Có To what extent
hay không thì cách làm vẫn giống nhau).

Ví dụ:
Topic 1: Some people believe that some unpaid community services should be a
compulsory part of high school programs.
Do you agree or disagree?
Topic 2: It is neither possible nor useful for a country to provide university places for a high
proportion of young people.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Topic 3: Individuals can do nothing to improve the environment; only governments and
large companies can make a difference.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Ở dạng này, đề bài sẽ đưa ra 1 quan điểm và chúng ta sẽ phải trả lời là đồng ý hay không
đồng ý với quan điểm của đề bài.

 2. Discussion
Có 3 loại câu hỏi nhỏ trong dạng Discussion:
- Discuss both views and give your opinion. (Thảo luận 2 quan điểm đề bài đưa ra và nêu
ý kiến của mình: nghiêng về quan điểm nào hơn).

Ví dụ:
Topic 4: Some people believe that the government spends too much money on developing
space exploration technology. There are many other financial needs that the government
should address instead.
Discuss both views and give your opinion.

- Do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages? (Thảo luận ưu điểm và nhược điểm
của 1 vấn đề, và nêu ý kiến của mình: ưu điểm hay nhược điểm nhiều hơn).

Ví dụ:
Topic 5: Nowadays many parents are sending their kids abroad to acquire a good
education.
Do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?

- Is this a positive or negative development? (Thảo luận mặt tích cực và tiêu cực của 1 xu
hướng, và nêu ý kiến của mình: tích cực hay tiêu cực nhiều hơn).

Ví dụ:
Topic 6: Many employers are now offering their employees the option to work from home.
As a result, employees will have much more flexible hours in the future.
Is this a positive or negative development?

 3. Cause - Effect - Solution
Đề bài đưa ra 1 vấn đề, và sẽ yêu cầu chúng ta nêu 2 trong số 3 thứ: Nguyên nhân, Hậu
quả hoặc Biện pháp.

Ví dụ:
Topic 7: The number of people who watch foreign films is much more than the number of
people who watch local films.
What are the reasons?
What can be done to help the local film industry?

Topic 8: Many animal species are becoming extinct due to human activities on land and in
the sea.
What are the reasons and solutions?

4. Two-part question
Đề bài đưa ra 2 câu hỏi, không theo một quy luật nào.

Example:
Topic 9: Consumers are faced with increasing numbers of advertisements from competing
companies.
Do you think that this is having a bad effect on consumers?
What can be done to protect them?

Topic 10: Parents often give children everything they ask for and do what they like.
Is it good for children?
What are the consequences when they grow up?

Tìm những lỗi phổ biến khi áp dụng cấu trúc NN-KQ trong các câu dưới đây:

1. Since illegal logging, the Earth now has fewer trees to combat CO2 emissions.
2. Owing to the world’s population is aging rapidly, it would seem a good idea to
encourage people to have more children.
3. Since travelling by bike can be extremely time-consuming, which tends to discourage
people from choosing this means of transport.
4. The severe worldwide financial crisis in 2008 resulted in millions of people losing their
jobs, which contributed to increase crime rates significantly.
5. Children often spend a significant amount of time watching television, which would

1. Due to / Owing to / Because of phải cộng với danh từ. Since / As / Because phải cộng với
mệnh đề.

Viết sai: ”Due to the technology is developing"

Viết đúng:"Since the technology is developing" hoặc "Owing to the development of the
technology".
2. which leads to / which causes / which contributes to... tất cả đều phải cộng với danh từ.

Viết sai: "..., which leads to crime rates will increase"

Viết đúng: "..., which leads to an increase in crime rates"
3. affect là động từ, còn effect là danh từ.

Viết sai: "..., which negatively effects children"

Viết đúng: "..., which negatively affects children"
4. affect something, không có to

Viết sai: "..., which negatively affects to the economy of a country"

Viết đúng: "..., which negatively affects the economy of a country"
5. Since/As/Because với Which là 2 cấu trúc riêng biệt. Không được sử dụng 2 cấu trúc này
trong cùng 1 câu có hai mệnh đề. Nếu đã dùng Since thì không dùng Which nữa và ngược
lại.

Viết sai: " Since vehicles are releasing a great amount of exhaust fumes, which increases the
level of air pollution."
Viết đúng: " Since vehicles are releasing a great amount of exhaust fumes, air pollution is
becoming more serious."

 CẤU TRÚC LẤY VÍ DỤ
Ví dụ: People living in big cities nowadays have to deal with many problems.
1. Sử dụng SUCH AS
● Dùng để liệt kê 1 vài ví dụ nhỏ (chỉ dùng để liệt kê tên) để làm dẫn chứng cho một
chủ thể nào đó.
● Lấy ví dụ ngay trong câu và kẹp giữa cặp dấu phẩy nếu ở giữa câu.
● Cấu trúc: danh từ cần lấy ví dụ + such as + ví dụ A and/or B.
⮚ People living in big cities nowadays have to deal with many problems such as pollution
and traffic congestion.
2. Sử dụng FOR EXAMPLE,/FOR INSTANCE,/TO ILLUSTRATE,
● Lấy một ví dụ lớn, giải thích cụ thể rõ ràng hơn.
● Lấy ví dụ trong một câu riêng biệt.
● Cấu trúc: Câu cần lấy ví dụ. For example,/For instance,/To illustrate, …

to a great number of private vehicles travelling on the streets, people in urban areas
have to face the problem of traffic congestion on a regular basis.

Mẹo nhỏ: Nếu chúng ta gặp khó khăn trong việc lấy ví dụ theo cấu trúc số 2 thì chúng ta có thể
áp dụng phương pháp 5W1H và kết hợp paraphrase để cụ thể hóa câu trước đó.
VD: People who spend longer at work are more likely to suffer from a number of health issues,
which negatively affects their work productivity. For instance, my sister spends more than 70
hours working per week and she often feels stressed out, exhausted and makes more mistakes
at work.

o People => who? => my sister

o Spend longer at work => how many? spends more than 70 hours working per
week
o suffer from a number of health issues => what? => stressed out, exhausted
o negatively affects their work productivity => how? => makes more mistakes at
work
