The document summarizes the aim, working, and functions of three core networking devices - hub, switch, and router. It explains that a hub operates at the physical layer and acts as a common connection point. A switch operates at the data link layer and uses MAC addresses to send packets to selected ports, supporting unicast, multicast, and broadcast. A router operates at layer 3, connects different networks, manages traffic between them by sending packets to IP addresses, and allows multiple devices to share an internet connection.

Aim: Configure and understand working of network devices hub, switch,
and router. Hub: It is a networking device that allows user to connect multiple PCs to single network. It works as a common connection point for devices. Hub operates on Physical layer. APEX Institute of Technology Information Security
Switch: It is a networking device which operates at data link layer of the
OSI model. It connects devices in a network and use packet switching to send, receive or forward data packets over network. It uses MAC address to end data packets to selected destination ports. It supports unicast, multicast as well as broadcast. APEX Institute of Technology Information Security
Router: It is a networking device that operates at layer 3 of OSI model. It
connects two or more packet-switched networks. It connects different network together. Also, it is a path selector. It has primarily two functions i.e., managing traffic between these networks by sending data packets to their IP addresses and allowing multiple devices to use the same internet connection.
