 ASKING ABOUT APPEARANCE
Sometimes you’re curious about what a person or something looks like before
seeing them in real life. You may question their appearance. In these
situations, you should know how to ask, using these following sentences: (Đôi
khi bạn sẽ trở nên tò mò về liệu thứ gì đó hoặc ai đó trông ra sautrước khi bạn
thấy chúng ở ngoài đời thật. Bạn sẽ muốn đặt câu hỏi về ngoại hình của
chúng. Trong tình huống này, bạn nên đặt câu hỏi như sau)
1. What do … look like?/ What does… look like? (… trông như thế nào?)
Ex. What does she look like? (Cô ta trông như thế nào?)
Ex. What does your father look like? (Bố bạn trông như thế nào?)
Ex. What do they look like? (Bọn chúng trông như thế nào?)

Or to be more polite, you should say: (Hoặc để lịch sự hơn, bạn có thể hỏi)
Can you tell me what he looks like? (Phiền bạn nói cho tôi biết anh ta
trông như thế nào?)
 ASKING ABOUT APPEARANCE
To talk about appearance you should know the verb “describe” which
means to say what a person or something is like. (Để bàn luận về
ngoại hình, bạn nên biết đến động từ “describe” (mô tả) có nghĩa là
giải thích rằng một người hay thứ gì đó trông như thế nào.

2. Can you describe …? (Phiền bạn có thể

mô tả … được không?)
Ex. Can you describe him? (Phiền bạn có thể
mô tả anh ta được không?)
Ex. Can you describe your sister? (Phiền bạn
có thể mô tả chị gái bạn được không?)
Ex. Can you describe your friends? (Phiền bạn có thể mô tả bạn bè
của bạn được không?)
 DESCRIBING APPEARANCE
When it comes to describing appearance, you usually describe facial shapes,
and other facial parts such as eyes, nose, and hair. Let’s learn useful
vocabulary to describe the facial shapes as following examples: (Ngoài ra khi
mô tả ngoại hình, bạn thường mô tả hình dáng khuôn mặt và các bộ phận khác
trên gương mặt như mắt, mũi và tóc. Cùng học một số từ vựng mô tả hình dáng
gương mặt như ví dụ sau)

1. Facial shapes (Dáng mặt)

- oval (ô van, trái xoan)
- square (vuông chữ điền)

- diamond (kim cương)
- rectangular (chữ nhật)
- heart (trái tim)

Now, practice describing a person’s facial shape by using the vocabulary
and some useful sentence structures as following examples: (Giờ cùng tập

1.1. … has got (‘s got)a/an … face (… có gương mặt hình…)
Ex. She’s got an oval face. (Cô ta có gương mặt hình trái xoan)
Ex. He’s got a square face. (Anh ta có gương mặt vuông chữ điền)
Ex. The man has got a small rectangular face. (Người đàn ông có gương
mặt nhỏ hình chữ nhật)
… have got (‘ve got) a/an … face
Ex. I’ve got a diamond face. (Tôi có gương mặt kim cương)
Ex. Both of my parents have got oval faces. (Cả bố và mẹ tôi đều có gương
mặt hình trái xoan)
Ex. You’ve got a heart face. (Bạn có gương mặt hình trái tim)

Ex. I’ve eaten too much. My face is round. (Dạo này tôi ăn nhiều quá. Mặt
tôi tròn xoe)
Ex. Her face is oval. (Mặt cô ta hình trái xoan)
Ex. His face is rectangular. (Mặt anh ta hình chữ nhật)

2. Nose shapes (dáng mũi)
Ex. She has a turned-up nose. (Cô ta có

3. Eye colors (Màu mắt)
The most common eye colors are black, brown and blue. Some have green or
grey eyes, but rare. (Màu mắt thường gặp nhất là đen, nâu và xanh da trời.
Một vài người có màu mắt xanh lục và xám nhưng khá hiếm)
Ex. Her eyes are blue.
Ex. She’s got blue eyes.
Ex. My eyes are brown.

4. Eye shapes: big / small (hình

dáng mắt)
Ex. She’s got big blue eyes.
Ex. His eyes are rather/ pretty/ a bit
small.

5. Hair types (Loại tóc)
Ex. I’ve got straight hair. (Tôi có mái tóc thẳng)
Ex. She’s got long wavy hair. (Cô ta có straight wavy
mái tóc dài và lượn sóng)
Ex. Her hair is short and curly. (Tóc cô ta ngắn
và xoăn)
Ex. The black girl’s got kinky hair. (Cô gái
curly kinky

6. Lip shapes: full / thin (Dáng môi: dày/ mỏng)
Ex. She’s got full lips. (Cô ta có đôi môi dày)
Ex. His lips are thin. (Môi của anh ta mỏng)

You also should know how to give comments about one’s appearance. You
can read the following examples with some descriptive adjectives as follows
to tell what a person is like in general: (Bạn cũng nên biết cách đưa ra lời
nhận xét về ngoại hình của ai đó. Bạn có thể đọc ví dụ dưới đây cùng một
số tính từ mô tả như sau để mô tả ngoại hình của một người nói chung)

Ex. She’s beautiful/ pretty/ gorgeous/ stunning. (Cô ta trông thật

xinh/ rạng rỡ)
Ex. He looks handsome/ good-looking/ tall/ short/ slim. (Anh ta
trông thật đẹp trai/cao/thấp/ vừa vặn)
Ex. You look young/ matured/ old. (Bạn trông thật trẻ/ trưởng
thành/ già)
