IV. PROCEDURES

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Preparation
A.1. Prayer
Class, please all stand. Any volunteer to
lead the prayer? (Student will pray)
A.2 Greetings
Good Morning, class! Good Morning Ma’am!
Tap the shoulder of your seatmate and
say “good morning”.
Before you take your seats kindly check
if your area is clean and if not, pick the
pieces of paper and arrange the alignment
of your chairs.

A.3 Checking of Attendance

today?
B. Review
Let us have a short review on what we
have discussed yesterday by having a
short activity.

Identify the following images if they are

renewable or non-renewable. Stand if
your answer is renewable energy
resource then sit if your answer is non-
renewable.

Renewable energy resource

(Hydrothermal Energy)

Non – renewable energy resource

(Petroleum)

C. Motivation
Who among you here eats burger?
What are the fillings of the burger that
you often eat?

Now, I want you to prepare all the fillings of a

burger using all the ingredients that I have here
in front.

Who wants to volunteer to place the first layer of

the burger?

How about the layer next to bun? The student will place the bun in the plate.

Who wants to place the next layer? The student will place the vegetable.

How about the layer next to patty? The student will place the patty.

Next layer to cheese will be? The student will place the cheese.

Last layer will be? The student will place the tomato.

The student will place the bun.

What have you observed on the burger? Ma’am, there are buns.
Ma’am, there are cheese.
Ma’am, there are patties.
Ma’am, there are vegetables.
Ma’am, there are tomatoes.
There are different layers that make up the
burger.

What does the burger model represent? The layers of the atmosphere, Ma’am!

Correct! Like the burger, our atmosphere also

has layers.

Before we discuss the different layers, let us first

define the atmosphere.

What is atmosphere? Atmosphere is a layer or a set of layers of

Very Good! gases surrounding the earth or another planet.

D. Activity

I have here five envelopes containing all the
materials that you need. Now go to your group

E. Analysis

Based on your activity, what are the layers of the

atmosphere from bottom to top? The layers of the atmosphere are troposphere,
stratosphere, mesosphere, thermosphere and
exosphere.
Give one characteristic of troposphere.
The troposphere is the layer wherein clouds
are formed.
That’s right! The troposphere is the lowest layer
of the atmosphere that lies next to the Earth’s
surface. What is the altitude of the troposphere? It extends to about to 14 kilometres above the
Earth

Correct! Aside from that, as you move up into

the troposphere, the temperature decreases.
Next layer is the stratosphere. Who can describe
the stratosphere? It is the layer wherein ozone layer is located.

What is the air temperature as you move up into

stratosphere? As you move up into the stratosphere the air
temperature actually increases.
Great! This occurs because of ozone. Ozone is a
gas that absorbs solar radiation and releases it as
heat.

Next layer is the mesosphere. What is the

temperature in this layer? Temperatures at the top of this layer can drop
to -90°C. It is the coldest layer of the
atmosphere.

Interestingly, this layer also protects the Earth.

Meteoroids entering Earth’s atmosphere usually
burn up in the mesosphere.

Next layer is the thermosphere. Who can give

one characteristic of thermosphere? The temperature on this layer is 2000 C.

Additional information class, the beautiful colors

of the aurora borealis or northern lights occur in
this atmospheric layer. This is also where the
space shuttle orbits the Earth.

Highest layer is the exosphere. What are the

objects found in this layer? In this layer satellites were stationed.

The exosphere is the uppermost region of

Earth's atmosphere as it gradually fades into the
vacuum of space. Air in this layer is extremely
thin.

For you to easily remember the layers of the

atmosphere, I have here mnemonics.

Troubled – Troposphere
Super – Stratosphere
Man – Mesosphere
Tricked – Thermosphere
Ellen – Exosphere
F. Abstraction
Class, to sum up what we have discussed
today, I have here name of the different
layers of the atmosphere and concept
strips that will describe each layer. What
you’re going to do is to arrange the layers
from bottom to top and then put the
concept strips that will describe each
layer.

G. Application

Atmosphere is an important part of what There would be no life on Earth. Nothing will

order to protect our atmosphere? Practice the 3R’s.
Do not burn garbage and lessen the use of
products that contain chlorofluorocarbons
such as perfumes, air conditioners and even
plastics that may harm the ozone.
Very good! In fact, the government
constructed a republic act No. 8749,
otherwise known as The Philippines
Clean Air Act, that includes management
and program and the goal is to achieve
and maintain healthy air for us Filipinos.
