CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study

The evolution of technology has dramatically altered humanity.

With its commencement, people has improved their ability to do work.

Classrooms around the world have implemented many forms of

technology to enhance student work attitude. Research shows that

students generally have positive attitudes towards the use of

technology in educational settings (Eyyam & Yaratan, 2014; Bertz &

Brownman,1994). However, even if technology is being utilized in the

classroom, the attitudes of those directly involved in its use may

impact the effectiveness of the technology and ultimately the success

of the students (Wai-chung Ho, 2004).

The said problem was observed among European students in the

study of Barman (2010) in which the findings revealed that 48.89% of

the students got negative work attitude in the use of technology.

Because of the work attitude of the students, effectiveness in

technology use is affected, which implies that the effectiveness of

inclination on technology varies on the attitude of the user.

2

Similar Results are shown in the article presented by Philippine Star in

the year 2014, which claimed that inclination on technology use is

correlated with the Work Attitude of the students resulting to poor

effectiveness and improvement.

In La Filipina National High School, Tagum City, Inclination on

Technology Use has been observed to affect the work attitude of the

user. This scenario prompted the researchers to conduct the study to

determine if Inclination on Technology Use has a significant

relationship to the work attitude of the students.

Statement of the Problem

The main thrust of this study is to determine the level of

Inclination on Technology Use and Students Work Attitude.

Specifically, it sought to answer the following questions:

1. What is the level of Inclination on Technological Use

among the respondents in terms of;

a. technological advancement;

b. technological usage; and

c. technological attitude?
3

2. What is the level of Students Work Attitude in terms of;

a. usage of time;

b. intensity of work; and

c. technology?

3. Is there a significant relationship between Technology Use

and Students Work Attitude?

Theoretical and Conceptual Framework

The study was based on the theory of Vygotsky’s (1976) theory

of social constructivism. This includes students creating concepts that

are relevant and meaningful based on existing knowledge and

understanding communicative tools and strategies that help students

develop individual learning methods such as discovery learning and

interactive social activities to develop peer collaboration and improve

attitude.

Newhouse (2002) put forth that one of the most crucial elements

of the constructivism theory of learning is the concept of proximal

learning. This concept accepts that a learner builds on his or her

knowledge from a scaffolding base that can be supplied by either a

teacher or a computer. Technology would therefore be the best

medium for helping to create ideal learning environment that develops

efficiency and systematically support learner centered approaches.

4

As a result, learners should be technology advanced in order to

promote an effective student work attitude in education.

The overall research design of this study is all about Technology

Use and Students Work Attitude, is a quantitative study towards

students. The following conceptual framework provides a guide to the

readers to know the overall meaning of the research also, to know the

effect of Technology Use on Students Work Attitude.

6

Significance of the Study

This study is worth conducting because it provides new

information that will contribute meaningfully to the following

individuals.

Students. It will help the students to acknowledge on how they

should use the technological devices to attain learning and to help

them improve themselves and participate actively, increase in

productivity and increased motivation.

Parents. They could help their child to use technology for

academic or school purposes and they could guide them and keep

themselves involved, this way they could monitor their child in or out

of school.

Administration. It will help them to do some new strategies

and techniques and it can also aid administrators in coming up with

simple plans and activities.

Future Researchers. Another angle of study regarding

Inclination on Technology Use and Students Work Attitude can be

explored using the results of this study. This will be a great help for

them in identifying variables to be considered in their research.

7

Scope and Delimitation of the Study

The main objective of this study is to gather new data about

Inclination on Technology Use and Students Work Attitude that will

foster another angle of learning. This study was conducted on month

of November in La Filipina National High School, school year 2019-

2020, focusing to the grade 12 students both (GAS and TVL) and

delimited to the grade 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11. This was cover 179

respondents to complete the research study.

Definition of Terms

Work Attitude. Student attitudes on learning determine their

ability and willingness to learn. Changing student’s negative attitudes

towards technology is a process that involves determining the factors

driving the attitude and using technology to bring about change.

Technology. The new advancement such as gadgets that has

brought efficiency to students’ learning process.

CHAPTER 2

METHODOLOGY

In this chapter the researcher presents the research design,

respondents, instruments, data gathering procedure and the statistical

tools used to analyze the data gathered.

Research Design

This study employed a descriptive-correlation method of

research. According to Calmorin (2006), this measure is concerned

with conditions, relationships that exists, practices that prevail, beliefs,

processes that are going on, effects that are being felt, or trends that

are developing and how variables varies with another that is, to have

similar relative position. This research design is appropriate for the

current study which the primary purpose is to determine the

relationship between Inclination on technology use and students work

attitude.

Respondents of the Study

The respondents of the study were the grade 12 students both

GAS and TVL from La Filipina National High School. They were chosen
9

as the respondents since it is expected that in their year level, they

are already competent in using technology.

Table 1 shows the distribution of the respondents. The

researcher gathered data from La Filipina National High School. The

total number of Grade 12 students’ population is 322. Using Slovene’s

formula, the total number of respondents of each section was

identified as shown in table 1.

The researcher used simple random sampling method

particularly the fish bowl process in getting the sample population.

The researchers gathered all the list of names in a certain section and

randomly pick the respondents of the study. As calculated, the

respondents of General Academic Strand composed of 82 respondents

while 97 respondents in Technical Vocational Livelihood.

Data Gathering Procedure

The following steps were done in the conduct of the research

study:

Seeking Permission to conduct the study. The researcher sought

permission to the Principal and the administration.

Sending letters to the principal and the advisers. The researcher

made a letter seeking their approval for their students to be the

respondents of the study.

The researcher personally administered the research instrument

to the identified respondents.

The retrieval of accomplished questionnaire was also conducted

by the researcher.

Recording of responses and data computerization.

Data Analysis

For more comprehensible interpretation and analysis of the data,

the following statistical tools were utilized.

Mean - was used to determine the level of Inclination on

Technology Use on Students Work Attitude.

13

Standard Deviation (SD) - is the measure of spread of the

numbers in a set of data from its mean value. It is a numerical value

used to indicate how widely individuals in a group vary.

Pearson Product Moment Correlation (Pearson – r) – This

treatment was used to measure the degree of linear relationship

between independent variable and dependent variable. This was used

to determine the relationship of the level of Inclination on Technology

Use and Students Work Attitude.

Regression - This was used to determined or measure the

relationship between the two variables and to explore the forms of

these relationships.

There are five (5) constraint limits which were designed for the

individual indicators in interpreting the data, the range of means used

are the following:

15

Validity and Reliability

To substantiate the validity, the survey questionnaires were

subjected to the examination of three validators who evaluated the

relevance of each item in the questionnaires to the objectives. The

validators rated the questionnaire on a scale. The researchers

conducted pilot testing with 15 students which is 25% or ¼ before

having the final survey since the questionnaires are researcher made.

The recommendations of the validators were used to finalize the

questions of the study.

CHAPTER 3

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

This chapter presents the results of the data gathered and the

comprehensive discussion of the findings of the study, which includes

the interpretation and implication of these findings.

Results were presented and analyzed under the following sub-

headings: Means and Standard Deviation on the level of Inclination

on Technology Use under Technological Advancement, Technological

Usage and Technological Attitude as well as the level of Students Work

Attitude under Usage of Time, Intensity of Work, and Technology; and

the significance of the relationship between Technology Use and

Students Work Attitude.

Level of Inclination on Technology Use Under Technological

Advancement, Technological Usage and Technological Attitude
Among the Respondents.

Technology Use is primarily intended to promote work efficiency

and to develop the electronic skills of learners (De Bonis, 2011). Table

3 shows the means and standard deviations on the level of Inclination

on Technology Use in terms of Technological Advancement,

Technological Usage and Technological Attitude. It can be seen in the

table that the indicator Technological Advancement has the highest

17

mean rating (Mean=4.58, SD=0.34) and described as Very High,

which means that respondents have very high advancement level on

technology. Followed by the indicator Technological Usage

(Mean=4.19, SD=0.33) of which described as High. This indicates that

respondents have a high level of assessment on technology’s

application and value in their everyday lives. Furthermore, the

indicator Technological Attitude has the mean rating of (Mean=3.96,

SD=0.35) which described as High, which means that respondents

have a high level of ethical and responsible use of technology. Kay

(2011) stated that Technology produced significant gains in students’

efficiency.

Wang (2010) stated that in order to develop an effective Student

work attitude, students should be technologically literate and

advanced. The average overall mean rating is 4.24 with a standard

deviation of 0.184835 describing it as High. This means that the

respondents have a high level of Inclination on Technology Use

Technological innovation transforms the way of life of communities

fundamentally to surface an “efficient” and “better-quality” of

existence. According to De Bonis (2011) Technology in education

improves efficiency of learning experience in terms of time and

accessibility to materials especially through internet and the proper

organization of materials that contain relevant information. The data

21

gathered shows that emerging technologies can be powerful tools in

education for they uplift efficiency and improve the work attitude in

the day to day education of students. Moreover, Technology Use

provide students with an opportunity to develop their electronic skills

and help them improve their engagement and motivation in their

learning activities.
CHAPTER 4

SUMMARY, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

In this chapter the researchers summarized the result of the gathered

data and conclusion.

SUMMARY OF FINDINGS

The purpose of the study is to determine the significant

relationship between Inclination on Technology Use and Students Work

Attitude.

The respondents were the Grade 12 students (both GAS

and TVL) of La Filipina National High School. The researchers

administered the researchers-made-questions to all participants with

the statistical data on the level of Inclination on Technology Use as

well as the level of Students Work Attitude and the Significant

Relationship between the two variables. In order to get the results and

the findings of the study, we computed the overall mean of the survey

results. The independent variable in the study is Inclination on

Technology Use and the dependent variable is Students Work Attitude.

The findings of this investigation are summed-up in section

areas as follows: In identifying the level of Inclination on Technology

Use, the indicator Technological Advancement has the highest mean

23

rating of 4.58, followed by the indicator Technological Use with a mean

of 4.19 and the indicator Technological Attitude with a mean of 3.96.

Of which all were verbally described as High.

The overall mean rating is 4.24 with a Standard Deviation

of 0.18 which is verbally described as High.

On the other hand in distinguishing the level of Students

Work Attitude, the indicator Usage of Time has a mean of 3.68,

followed by Intensity of work with a mean of 3.84 and the indicator

Technology with a mean of 4.20 which was all described as High has

an overall mean rating of 3.91 and a Standard Deviation of 0.16 which

is verbally described as High.

Moreover, the calculated data in identifying the significant

relationship between Inclination on Technology Use and Students Work

Attitude lead to the rejection of the null hypothesis. The result of r-

value, 0.66258 and the probability level, 0.000 supports the rejection

of the null hypothesis which states that Inclination on Technology Use

has a significant relationship on the Students Work Attitude among

respondents.
24

CONCLUSION

Based on the above-mentioned findings of the study, the

following conclusions are drawn:

1. The level of Inclination on Technology Use among

respondents in terms of:

a. Technological Advancement;

b. Technological Use; and

c. Technological Attitude is High.

2. The level of Students Work Attitude among respondents

under:

a. Usage of Time;

b. Intensity of Work; and

c. Technology is High.

3. There is a significant relationship between Inclination on

Technology Use and Students Work Attitude.

RECOMMENDATION

The exigency of continuous innovation in the field of

education is always present. New Technology aims to trigger

modifications in the field of education by upgrading the learning tools

alongside with the inevitable fast-paced technological innovations.

25

Marshall (2010) thinks that the implementation of Technology based

education will create a positive environment among institutions for it

uplifts work attitude through the use of the emerging technologies. As

the world continues its march to progress, Education sectors should

introduce changes to the system by adopting a wider array of learning

platforms with use of technology. With the mentioned conclusion

above, the researchers recommend the following:

 New Technology such as Laptops and iPod should be introduced

in institutions.

 It is also prompted that learning institutions should modify their

educational management systems.

 Students should embark on using laptops or computers for all

learning purposes including doing examinations and tests.

 Traditional method of teaching should be replaced with e

learning technology in order to get loads of information’s.

 Technology teaching in schools will benefit students and teachers

for they get to experience the best of teaching educations that

will uplift efficiency and improve work attitude.

Adopting a Technology based education is not a panacea,

but a potential catalyst for improved learning in schools. Through

electronic devices, the learning process is removed from the

26

rigidness of the physical classroom and connected to the world’s

knowledge base which in turn boost efficiency and develop students

work attitude.
