Riddle: the layers of sediments that accumulated and carry the records
of the Earth’s history.
What is IGNEOUS
01 ROCK?
formed from hardening and
crystallization of magma or molten
material that originates deep within
the earth.
Igneous Rocks Texture
What is
METAMORPHIC ROCK?
02 forms from pre-existing
rocks: either metamorphic,
igneous, sedimentary
What is ROCK METAMORPHISM?
-It is the solid‐state transformation
(no melting) of a rock mass into a
rock of generally the same
chemistry but with different
textures and minerals.
What is SEDIMENTARY ROCK?
Particles of sand, shells, pebbles, and

03

other fragments of materials called

sediments, accumulate in layers and over
long period of time harden into rocks.
❑ Compaction-due to increase of pressure

of layered sediments it bind together to

form the sedimentary rocks
Types of SEDIMENTARY ROCK?
a. Clastic - formed from accumulation of clasts: little
pieces of broken rocks and shells. Examples:
conglomerate, breccia, sandstone, shale

b. Chemical - formed when dissolved minerals

precipitate from a solution.
Example: Halite - formed when a body of seawater
becomes closed off and evaporates.
Types of SEDIMENTARY ROCK?
c. Organic - rocks formed from the
accumulation of animal debris
Example: Coal - composed of organic matter in
the form of plants fragments.
WHAT ARE THE USE
OF THESE ROCKS IN
OUR DAILY LIVES?
WHAT I CAN DO? Rocks are all around us. It is
used for building materials,
cars, roads, and
appliances. As a senior high
school student, how can
you promote the
sustainable development in
utilizing these resources?
Give some suggestions.

What’s In?
Organize the disordered letters. Describe each term briefly.
Correct Answers
What is WEATHERING?
Weathering is a process of
breaking down rocks into
small particles such
as sand, clay, gravel and
other fragments.
ACTIVITY 2
Learners will follow the following instructions:
1. Prepare the needed materials: two pieces of
paper and match.
2. Tear one paper, observe, and record your
answer.
3. Burn the other paper (with teacher
supervision), observe, and record your answer.
4. Based on your observation, differentiate the
changes after tearing and burning.

How do human
