Detailed Lesson Plan in Science and Health V

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the student should be able to:
a. Identify the parts of the sun.
b. Describe the parts of the sun.
c. Appreciate the importance of the sun.
II. Subject Matter:
Topic: Parts of the sun.
Value Focus: Cooperation and Teamwork

A. Science Concept/ Ideas

The sun is star. It is also a ball of fire. It has different parts namely;

Corona- the outermost layer of the sun.

Chromospheres- the sun middle layer.

Photosphere- the layer of the sun. It released light which reaches the
. earth.

Core- center of the sun and the hottest part.

Teacher’s Activity Pupil’s Activity

A. Preliminary Activities
1.Prayer
Somebody please lead the prayer

Angel of God my guardian dear to whom his

love commits me here. Ever this day be at my
side to light and guide to rule and guard Amen.

Good morning, Class!

Good morning Sir Richard
Good morning classmates
Mabuhay!

2.Checking of Attendance
Is there any absent today? Leaders
kindly report to me the absent in your
groups.

I’m glad to tell you that everybody is present in

our group (1,2,3)
Good! Give yourselves an
excellent clap.

3.Checking of Assignment
Do we have any assignment?
Yes we have!
Ok pass your assignment.
4.Drill
Let us play DEAL or No DEAL. If
the statement is true s say DEAL with your
thumbs up. If the statement is false, say No
DEAL with your thumbs down.

Are you ready?

(Flash Card) Yes, we are ready!

1. The solar system is an orderly

arrangement of the sun and the celestial
bodies.

2. The Earth rotates on its own axis every

24 hours. Deal!

3. Earth is the third planet in our solar

system. Deal!

4. Saturn is the 5th planet from the sun.

Deal!
5. Pluto is the 9th planet from the sun
No Deal!

5.Review Deal!
Posted here in the board are strips
of paper with jumbled letters on it. Once I pull
the strips. I need one representative to arrange
the jumbled letters to what I asked.

(U S N) center of our solar system.

(E R A H T) the third planet in our
solar system
(T U R N A S) It has the most visible
ring.
(U S V E N) It is the brightest planet
(S A M R ) It is the red planet.

B. Motivation
Let us sing “Mr. Golden Sun”
Mr. Golden Sun
Oh, Mr. Sun, Sun Mr. Golden Sun. Wont you
please shine down on me.
Oh Mr. Golden Sun , Sun Mr. Golden Sun
According to the song to which the children
Hiding behind the tree
want to play with?
These little children asking you to please come.

When you are playing, what body parts are you

using?
They want to play with Mr. Sun
Very Good!

How about Mr. Sun does sun has hands and

feet like you? Arms and Feet

Very Good!

It has no hands and feet like us but it has its

own part. None Sir!

2. Presentation
Let us look at the picture of the sun.

Do you have any idea about the different parts

of the sun?

Very Good!

But before that let us define the sun.

Sun is the largest heavenly bodies in the

solar system. It is also nearest star on Earth. It
is a ball of fire.
Lights, Rays ETC…..
Like any heavenly body, it has identifiable
parts.
Sun is composed of several layers or regions.

The first part is photosphere.

Photosphere is the third layer and innermost

layer of the sun’s atmosphere.
This layer releases light, which reaches the

Photosphere estimated temperature is about
The second layer or the middle layer of the sun 6000 c
is called.
Photosphere is the luminous surface layer of
the sun or a star and sphere of light or radiance.
Very Good!
The Photosphere

The Chromosphere
What do you have noticed in the
chromosphere?
The Chromospheres are the sun’s middle
layer. It can be seen during a total eclipse.
Chromospheres reaches the entire sun in the
height of 5000 km

Very Good!
I have noticed that the region of the

chromospheres in between the photosphere and
corona.

. Corona is the outermost layer of the sun and it

What do you have noticed in the corona? can see during total eclipse.
Corona is the area or edge of the sun that rotate
to entire whole sun.

Corona is the ring of sun or crown.

Very Good!

At the center of the sun is the core where

converts energy in the form of heat and light.

What is that part?

The Core
Very Good!
Core is the hottest part of the sun.
What are the gases converted in the core
that transform in energy? The estimated temperature is about 15 million
degree Celsius.

Very Good!

What do you called to the part that is

around the core of suns? Helium and Hydrogen

Very Good!

It is called the Radiative Zone

The central core is surrounded by the

Radiative Zone or zone of radiation, which
gives energy in the form of X- ray and

About 80 percent of the sun hydrogen and 18
Very Good! percent helium

Convection zone

Convection zone

core and its visible photosphere at the surface,
through which energy is transferred by

in the sun?
In the convection zone, hot plasma rises, cools
as it nears the surface, and falls to be heated
Very Good! and rise again.

Sunspots
Did you know that in the sun many
explosion and explosive activity are in their?
Sunspots are the dark spot that sometimes
appears on the surface of the sun.
In addition, that is what you called Solar Flares
and Prominences.
Yes Sir!
During the solar, flare magnetic storm

called also flare.

In addition, that is what you called solar flare.

How about prominences?

Very Good! Prominences are a mass of gas resembling a

cloud arises from chromosphere of the sun.
Prominences are a mass of gas in the surface of

Again! What are the different parts of the sun?

Yes Sir!

The different parts of the sun are the

into 4. All you have to do is to arrange the
puzzle properly and paste it on the board.

But, before that, there are some rules to

follow and what are those?

2. C- Cooperate with your group
3. D- Do your best
