III. Learning Activities

Teacher’s Activities Learner’s Activity

A. Preparatory Activities

1. Drill

Good morning class. Good morning, Ma'am/Sir.

How are you all this morning? We are all fine Ma’am/Sir.

Great! I’m glad to hear that you are all fine

this morning.

Before we start our activity, this morning let

us first sing a song, entitled “Balay Ko Sa
Langit”! Okay Ma’am/Sir!

Balay ko sa langit
Nagasidlak-sidlak 3x
Luyo sa panganod (The students are singing)

Ginoo, Ginoo
Hinundumi ako 3x
Sa imong pagbalik

You can now take your seat class. Okay Ma’am/Sir!

2. Review

Before we start our lesson let's have an

activity to recall what we had learned last
meeting.

Let us have a game entitled “Last Man

Standing”. When I say last man standing you
will all stand and the last student to stand will
answer the question from our previous lesson.
Yes, Ma’am/Sir!
Am I clear class?

“Last Man Standing!”

Okay, Gardose. Since you are the last student

who is standing. Now, here’s my question.
What do well call it when the lighted side
shrinks as the full moon transitions to the new It is called the wanning phase Ma’am/Sir!
moon?

Very good, Gardose!

“Last Man Standing!”

Cal, here’s the question. What if the lighted

side gets smaller as the moon transitions from It is called the waxing phase Ma’am/Sir!
new to full?

That’s great, Cal!

So, can we now proceed to our new lesson? Is None, Ma’am/Sir!

there any question about the last topic?
3. Motivation
Yes Sir!
Do you want to play a game class?
Now let us have a game.

Are you familiar with the game “The Boat is Yes Sir!
Sinking” and “Puzzle Me”?
Good!

This time let’s have 2-game activities, the first

one is “The Boat is Sinking”, I know that you
are already familiar with this game but here’s
the catch, we will be setting it into extreme
level. The individual who got eliminated per
set of groupings will be asked question after
the game, the remaining students will have the
chance to proceed to our next game which is
entitled, “Puzzle Me”, the remaining students
will be group into 2 and will be given each an
envelope. Inside the envelope is a cut-out
picture of “something” after my cue you will
open the envelope and arrange the pieces
inside it.

But this time, we will add some twist to the

game. Instead of saying directly: group
yourselves into 5 and etc., I will say: group
yourselves into 10 divided by 2 equals and
etc. You should group yourselves according to
the answer of the operation that I will give.

Did you understand the mechanics of the Yes Sir!

game class?
Very good!

Now each group that will be made will

receive a prize, but those who will fail to
create the desired numbers of a group will not
receive anything.
Yes Sir, let’s play the game!
Are you ready for the game class?

Okay, let’s start the game. The boat is sinking, Students are grouping themselves into 6.
group yourselves into 24 divided by 4 equals.
Very good students. Here are your prizes.

Again. The boat is sinking, group yourselves Students are grouping themselves into 9.
into 3 multiplied by 3 equals.
Congratulations!

Here are your prizes again.

Let’s play again. The boat is sinking, group Students are grouping themselves into 11.
yourselves into 16 plus 4, minus 9 equals.

Okay, take your prizes here.

Now, write all the names of the members of

your group in a 1⁄4 sheet of paper and pass it
to me. This will be your permanent group
during this period.
Yes Sir!
Am I understood class?

Now class, what do you think is our lesson for Eclipses Sir!
today?

Very good!

B. Developmental Activities

1. Presentation of the Lesson

And this afternoon, we are going to learn

more about Eclipse.

For us to be guided in our lesson here are the

objectives.

Objectives:

At the end of the lesson, students must be able

to; (All the students are reading the objectives)
a. Explain the difference between solar
and lunar eclipses;
b. Create a model of lunar and solar
eclipse;
c. Relate the essence of understanding
the difference between lunar and solar
eclipse through reflective essay.
a) Setting of Standards
Listen attentively to the teacher Sir.
Class what will you do during class hours?
Participate in group activities Sir.
Very good! What else?
Nice!
Respect the teacher and our classmates Sir.
Above all, what should you do?
Yes Sir!
Precisely! Can I expect that from you class?

2. Discussion/Analysis

I have here 3 objects: flashlight, small ball,

and a big ball.

Now, I will arrange the objects in this order

flashlight, small ball, big ball.

I will flash the light on the objects. What is The shadow of the small ball is formed on the
formed on the surface of the Earth? surface of the big ball.

What phenomenon do you think will occur on Solar Eclipse

this setup?

Brilliant!

How about I am going to put the big ball on

the centre and flash the light, what Lunar Eclipse
phenomenon do you think will occur?

Absolutely!

This is just a simple demonstration on how

solar and lunar eclipse occurs, class.

3. Generalization/Abstraction
Yes Sir!
Did you understand our lesson for today
class?
Eclipse Sir is the partial or complete blocking
Are you sure? In your own words, who can from view of one object by another.
tell me, what is an eclipse?
A solar eclipse happens when a new moon
moves between the Earth and the Sun
Exactly! So, when does a solar eclipse blocking some or all of the Sun's rays from
happen? reaching the Earth Sir.

Total solar eclipse, Partial solar eclipse,

Annular Solar eclipse, and Hybrid Solar
eclipse Sir.
Well said! What are again the types of solar
eclipse? Sir, lunar eclipse happens when Earth blocks
some or all of the Sun's direct light from
reaching the Moon, it will only take place
Very good! How about a lunar eclipse? When during a full Moon.
does it happen?
The three types of lunar eclipse are the total,
partial, and penumbral lunar eclipses Sir.

Correct! What are again the types of lunar

eclipse? “None, Sir!”

Very good! Do you have some questions

about our lesson for today class?

a. Valuing

As what I have told you earlier it is important

that we make sense of the key to
comprehending the distinction between solar
and lunar eclipses.

What is the importance of knowing the solar For over a century, solar eclipses helped
and lunar eclipse? scientists decipher the Sun's structure and
explosive events, find evidence for the theory
Yes, Diel? of general relativity, and discover a new
element, among other things. Today, NASA
scientists still study eclipses to make new
discoveries about the Sun, Earth, and our
space environment.

Since, you already understood the concept of

eclipses, now I want you to get a 1 whole
sheet of paper and write an essay about the
essence of understanding the difference
between solar and lunar eclipse. Yes, Sir?

“None Sir!”
Do you understand class?

Do you have further questions or

clarification?

C. Application

And now, we will have another activity. I will

group you into two. Here’s the catch I have
here a box containing different materials,
what you are going to do is that you will
create a model of Solar and Lunar Eclipse, the
group 1 will be making the Solar Eclipse and
the group 2 the Lunar Eclipse.
Yes, Sir!
I will be giving you 10 minutes to finish your
work.

Do you get me class?

Okay for our rubrics, this is how you will be

scored:

Creativeness - 10 points
Appropriateness - 10 points
Timeliness - 5 points
Neatness - 5 points
Total of 30 points
