1. Tepid (adj.) -a. - गुनगुना (especially of a liquid) only slightly warm; lukewarm

Example -
1) Tepid bathwater

b. - उत्साहहीन showing little enthusiasm.

Example -
1) The applause was tepid.
2) A tepid response

Synonyms - half-hearted, lukewarm, uneagerly, unenthusiastic

Hint – Sounds like torpid which means sluggish i.e. inactive

2. Crunch (Verb) –a. कड़ी चीज़ खाते हुए कचर-कचर आवाज़ करना - to make a loud
noise when you are eating something hard.

Example-
1) To crunch an apple.

b. - ककसी वस्‍तु के कुचले जाने की ऊँची आवाज़ होना - to make a loud noise like the
sound of something being crushed

Example –
1) She sucked an ice cube into her mouth, and crunched it loudly.

Synonyms – chew, nibble, munch.

c. - (Noun) - a severe shortage of money or credit.

Example –
1) The equity markets smell trouble and fears of a credit crunch have
heightened.

3. Expedite (Verb) – शीघ्र - make (an action or process) happen sooner or be
accomplished more quickly -

Example
1) He promised to expedite economic reforms.
2) Something needs to be done to expedite the process.

Synonyms - speed up, accelerate, hurry, hasten

Hint - EXPEDITE ~ Exped (sounds like speed) + It; so expedite means to


speed up the progress of something.

4. Dispensation (Noun) – विशेषानुमति - special permission to do something


that is normally not allowed.

Example-
1) They were promised dispensation from military service.
2) A special dispensation may be obtained from the domestic union
concerned.

Synonyms - license, exception, exemption.

5. Languish (Verb) – a. कमज़ोर ह़ोना - (of a person, animal, or plant) lose or


lack vitality; grow weak.

Example-
1) Without the founder's drive and direction, the company gradually
languished.

b. - दिन काटना , to exist in an unpleasant or unwanted situation.

Example
1) He has been languishing in jail for the past 20 years.

Synonyms - weaken, fail, wither, decline.

6. Amnesty (Noun) - अपराध-क्षमा, a situation in which a government agrees
not to punish, or to no longer punish, people who have committed a
particular crime

Example-
1) The government has announced an immediate amnesty for rebel fighters

Synonyms - reprieve, absolution, forgiveness, pardon, remission, remittal

Hint- because of his Honesty he got amnesty And I+am+nasty = i am nasty

7. Subvert (verb) –a. भ्रष्ट करना- undermine the power and authority of (an
established system or institution).

Example-
1) That they cannot subvert the very system of justice we are rightly so
proud of.
2) This government will not allow anyone to subvert the law.
Synonyms- bring down, destabilize, depose, unseat, ruin, sabotage,
contaminate, distort, destroy, annihilate, vitiate.
Hint- can be remembered with help of root word: sub (below, down) +
vert (to turn). and downfall of something subvert.

8. Fiat (noun)- आिे श- an official order from a person or group in authority.


Example-
1) He has tried to impose solutions to the country's problems by fiat.
2) The reforms left most prices fixed by government fiat.

Synonyms- decree, order, command, mandate, proclamation, edict, dictate.

Hint- “Fiat” is such a good car that it has a “command” on the other cars

9. Concede (Verb) – a. स्िीकार करना - admit or agree that something is true
after first denying or resisting it

Example
1) I had to concede that I'd overreacted
2) The government has conceded (that) the new tax policy has been a
disaster.

b. To admit that you have lost in a competition

Example-
1) She conceded even before all the votes had been counted.
2) He kept on arguing and wouldn't concede defeat.

c. अधिकार प्रिान करना -To allow somebody to take something although you
do not want to -

Example –
1) They lost the war and had to concede territory to their enemy.
2) Britain conceded (= allowed) independence to India in 1947.

Synonym – surrender, yield, give up, relinquish

Hint - Concede = Cede (Surrender) … Surrender and accept something to


be true reluctantly.

10. Conflate (Verb) – ममलाना - to combine two or more things.

Example-
1) Her letters conflate past and present.
2) She conflated the three plays to produce a fresh new work.

Synonyms - mix, dissolve, stir in.

Hint - conflates sounds similar to cornflakes which gives us strength by


bringing together all the vitamin and minerals together
