1. Augment (Verb) - to augment something means to make it larger, stronger,
or more effective by adding something to it - वृद्धि करना

Example-
1) He would have to find work to augment his income.
2) He augmented his income by taking a second job.

Synonyms – accelerate, add (to), aggrandize, amplify, boost, build up,


compound

Hint – You can remember it as opposite of segment. Segment means – to


make less… augment means – to add

2. Incarceration (Noun) – कैद- the act of putting or keeping someone in prison


or in a place used as a prison

Example-
1) The prisoner was sentenced to five months of incarceration.
2) We’re spending billions of dollars each year on incarceration.

Synonyms- confinement, imprisonment, restraint, detention, bondage,


internment, porridge.

Hint- after Stealing a CAR you got tension as you were IN “CARCER” jail.

3. Exhort (Verb)- प्रेरित किना - strongly encourage or urge (someone) to do


something.

Example-
1) He exhorted his companions, 'Try to accomplish your aim with diligence.
2) The governor exhorted the prisoners not to riot.

Synonyms- urge, warn, encourage, advise, bid, persuade, prompt, spur,


caution, enjoin, entreat.

Hint- Exert – to do something; Exhort – urge someone to do something.

4. Prod (Verb) – a. to push someone or something quickly with your finger, or
with an object that has a long thin end - धक्का

Example-
1) She prodded him in the back with her umbrella.

b. - to encourage someone to take action, especially when they are being


slow or unwilling - प्रेररत करना
Example –
1) He gets things done, but only after I've prodded him into doing them.

Synonyms - spur, stimulate, stir, rouse, prompt, drive, push, galvanize

Hint - sounds like “rod”. Stir up with rod, poke with a rod etc.

5. Implicate (Verb) -यह दिखाना दक व्‍यद्धि कुकर्म र्ें दिप्‍त है , िपेटे र्ें िे ना - to show
that somebody is involved in something unpleasant, especially a crime

Example-
1) Have they any evidence to implicate him in the robbery?
2) A well-known politician was implicated in the scandal.

Synonyms - incriminate, involve, compromise, embroil

Hint- Implying+cat= in Indian culture cat means something bad. So


implicate is implying cat. So something involving bad.

6. Spate (Noun) - a large number of things of the same type, usually bad
things, that suddenly happen in a very short period of time - बड़ी संख्या र्ें

Example-
1) Police are investigating a spate of burglaries in the Kingsland Road area.
2) We have had a spate of burglaries recently.

Synonyms – surge, tide, flow, outpouring, efflux, peck, outflow, outpour

Hint - What will be fate of our state if there is a SPATE OR SUDDEN

7. Falter (Verb) a. – दहचदकचाना - to lose confidence and determination.

Example-
1) Her friends never faltered in their belief in her.

b. To become weak or move in a way that is not steady.

Example-
1) Nicky’s voice faltered and he stopped speaking.

Synonyms- hesitate, waver, vacillate

Hint- failing to utter due to hesitation

8. Demeanour (Noun)- व्यवहाि - the way a person behaves


Example-
1) Her calm and cheerful demeanour.
2) There was nothing in his demeanour that suggested he was anxious.

Synonyms- behaviour, manner, conduct.

Hint- De + Meanour = sounds like The + Manner, The way a person behaves.

9. Muster (Verb) – a. (दकसी के दिए यथासं भव अदधकतर् सर्थमन, साहस आदि) जुटाना -
to find as much support, courage, etc. as you can

Example-
1) She managed to muster the courage to ask him to the cinema.

b. -िोगों (दवशे षतः सैदनकों) को इकट्ठा करना या उनका इकट्ठा होना,


to come together, or bring people, especially soldiers, together, for example
for military action

Example-
1) The general had mustered his troops north of the Hindu Kush.

Synonyms- summon up, collect, gather, assemble.

Hint- It rhymes with cluster which almost means the same.

10. Coalesce (Verb) –एक बड़ी इकाई हो जाना, सद्धिदित होना - to come together to
form one larger group, substance, etc.

Example-
1) Cities, if unrestricted, tend to coalesce into bigger and bigger
conurbations.
2) The theory is that galaxies coalesced from smaller groupings of stars.

Synonyms – blend, unite, mix, combine

Hint- Coal= combination of wood and charcoal.
