Four Modes of Classroom Discourse

4. Classroom context

Good morning grade 9 students, I will be your MAPEH teacher for this school year, my name
is Teacher Reymart N. Barro, but you can call me either Teacher Rey, Sir Rey, or Sir Barro. So,
before we start, let us have first our prayer that will be led by our classroom president. Before
you take your seat, check first your surroundings. please arranged your chair, pick up the
pieces of paper, and once you have your seat, kindly avoid chatting with your seatmates if it
is not needed.

Since this will be our first official face – to – face classroom discussion, I would like you to
introduce yourself so that we could be more familiar with each other.

I think this is now the time wherein I will formally introduce myself to you my dear students.
Once again, I am Teacher Reymart N. Barro, and I will be handling your class for this school
year. This will serve as my third year in teaching profession in public school however I was
already a teacher in private institution for four years. So, all in all, I am in teaching profession
for seven years and counting.

Is there any clarification, violent reactions, additional information, before moving to the next
part of our class discussion? So, if none, let us have our topic for today.

So now let us work out your thoughts about the word “MAPEH”. I want you to think about your
thought when it comes to our subject. I want you to give me what are the expectations
regarding this subject.

I am expecting you students that all throughout our class discussion you will perform well since
MAPEH subject focusses on your skills and talents. In short, I am expecting an interactive and
fun environment inside the classroom.

Note: For this activity, used the classroom instructions that I always give to my students that
shows the application of the four modes of classroom discourse)
