National foreword
This document (EN 1253-2:2015) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 165 “Waste water
engineering” (Secretariat: DIN, Germany).

The preliminary work was done by Working Group WG 11 “Gratings, covers and other ancillary components
for use inside buildings”.

The responsible German body involved in its preparation was the DIN-Normenausschuss Wasserwesen (DIN
Standards Committee Water Practice), Working Committee NA 119-05-11 AA Ablaufgarnituren, Abläufe,
Rückstauverschlüsse und Belüftungsventile für die Verwendung innerhalb von Gebäuden.

Amendments

This standard differs from DIN EN 1253-1:2003-09 and DIN EN 1253-2:2004-03 as follows:

a) the scope has been reduced to roof outlets and floor gullies without trap including parapet and emergency
drains for use in gravity and siphonic drainage systems;

b) the description of products has been rendered more precise;

c) terms and definitions have been modified;

d) the definition of places of installation has been rendered more precise;

e) liquid applied membranes have been considered as connecting components;

f) test conditions for flow rate testing for different types of products have been given in more detail;

g) loading test concerning test loads, loading speed as well as shape, size and point of impact of test blocks
in dependence on different configuration of gratings have been revised;

h) classification of products concerning their temperature cycling behaviour according to number of hot/cold
water cycles has been introduced;

i) the standard has been editorially revised.
