Sports
In Argentina men and women practise a lot of sports. The most popular sport in Argentina is football. People like
playing it. They play it at home, at school or in the park. They also go to games and watch it on TV. The Argentinian
football team won the World Cup in 1978 and 1986 and came second in 2014. Two famous football players are
Maradona and Messi.
Basketball and tennis are also very popular sports. Basketball became popular after Argentina won the semi-finals
against NBA players in 2004 and then took the Olympic gold medal home. Tennis was a sport for rich people in the
past, but now lots of people play it.
Winter sports are very popular in Argentina, too. People often ski in the Andes Mountains. And of course lots of people
run in local parks or go to the gym to keep fit.
