ED 313: LEADERSHIP MANAGEMENT FOR SCHOOL DEVELOPMENT
ASSESSMENT 1: Based on the 8 traits of a memorable leader, cite a simple situation that happens
in your workplace where each trait is manifested.
• We know a highly effective leader when we see one. They give off an energy that often makes us
like them instantly, we feel comfortable in their presence. I can say that I experienced all these 8
traits from my previous to current school heads.
1.Authencity
• Whenever we have a faculty meeting, she always want us to be open to any suggestions and
delegate to get work done.
2.Shares their wisdom
• I took my PHD course because of our leader, she always encourage me to enroll from this
course in order for me to gain more knowledge and to become an effective teacher. She gave me a
piece of advice on how I will manage my time from my work and studies.
3.Does what others don’t
• I can say that our current leader is the most memorable leader for me because she always
ready to listen to hear our concerns, not to react to us. She let us explain our side of the story.
Listening is a skill that can take some time to master, but it is one of the traits that sets leaders
apart from the rest.
4.Embraces the lesson of failure
• Mistakes are going to happen and the quicker we own up to our mistakes. Earlier in my
workplace, I made a mistake. Though I held a lot of fear around the situation, instead of getting
angry, she gave me advices and comforted me. I knew I would make a mistakes, and I knew that
sooner I owned up to them, the better.
5. Gives you your valuable time
• Last week, we had our INSET held at school and our school head made a way to listen to our
concerns and provide our insights regarding the activity. She also acknowledged our efforts in
preparing and for the success of the activity. The type of feedback shared by her is more than a
praise, it’s feedback that reinforces facts about an individual’s work vs. simple praise that’s one’s
opinion of someone else’s work.

6. Creates special moments

•My previous school head from private school where I taught for one year always make us feel
special. There was a time when a parent confronted me regarding how I disciplined his child, our
school head helps me and explained everything what had happened and sided with me on how I
reacted to the child’s behavior. Indeed, she is a leader who will never let you alone and is willing to
fight with you as long as you are in the right side.

7. Make you feel valued

• Highly successful leaders understand that employees like to receive feedback and
encouragement. Even if it’s not always positive, communication and feedback help an employee
know their work matters, and they’re being noticed. Just like our previous school head from my
current workplace, she always appreciate us even when we do simple things like cleaning the room,
saying thank you for doing the job well done.

8. Leads to leave a legacy

• Effective leaders lead by example. One of our previous school head leave a legacy in our
school, she opened a Special Program in the Arts Program (SPA) where our learners can apply their
skills especially in the field of Arts. And we are so grateful to her for leaving a legacy that will help
our learners develop and enhance their skills and boost their confidence through dancing, singing,
etc.
