REFLECTION REPORT
1. CASE 2 - CHAPTER 3 (GROUP 4,5,6)
a. Feedback
● Presentation
Regarding the presentation, we believe that it was insightful and accurately established in the
case study. We were impressed with the well-prepared presentation. The group did a great job of
condensing the main ideas and explaining them with attractive slides. They showed understanding
and care through multidimensional perspectives and many examples. Also, the way they presented
helped us have a general view about the topic and it was easy to follow.
However, we believe that some aspects of the presentation could be improved, such as:
+ Providing more detailed explanations of some challenges that Tableau may encounter
when it hires 1000 new employees in one year, instead of just listing. For instance,
what are the “management problems” that the group mentioned?
+ The group should pay closer attention to the timing so that the presentation can be
given in its entirety.
+ The group should compile an overview of the information presented and draw a
conclusion.
Overall, they delivered an outstanding presentation.

● Debate
Regarding the debate, more information on the subject and insights on some points were
given by the questions that were asked. For example, “it would be too expensive for managers to
travel to the specified site where the company is now operating its operation”, the group asked
whether social media sites can actually alter or replace this method. Informative answers were given.
It seems to us that a lot of effort was put into understanding the case study by the presentation group,
who could therefore interpret very detailedly.

b. What we’ve learned

Through four questions in the case application, we gained knowledge about the pros and cons
of applying this staffing strategy. Also, we could recognize the challenges that managers have to deal
with when working in international environments. For instance, building the relationship with either
new or old staff, the ability to oversee and monitor the team process when managers are not in
headquarters. We have learned
numerous aspects of global management, such as staffing strategy, connections between branches, an
d innovative methods for managing overseas branches. We understood there are
a variety of international firms' worldwide staffing practices. By investigating the approach of
Tableau, we have found that nation-host staffing has many advantages over conventional
alternatives, including the removal of language barriers, the Visa process, and long distances,..., to
increase productivity and efficiency while saving the most resources for the company. Additionally,
this strategy might provide Tableau an advantage in comprehending the customs, cultures, laws, and
consumption patterns of a certain market.

2. CASE 1 - CHAPTER 4 (GROUP 7,8,9)

a. Feedback
● Presentation

2
In terms of the presentation, we believe it was informative and thoroughly based on the case
study. The group did an excellent job of summarizing the key points and interpreting them with
visually-pleasing slides. Numerous examples were mentioned in order to demonstrate the theory
practically as well as support the group's opinion. They also managed the time well. However, there
were a few things that could have been covered, such as:
- Question 1: Give examples of some types of disabilities and how the challenges that
managers encounter differ in terms of those, for the audiences to better understand the topic.
- Question 4: Provide further information regarding how disabled employees can help to find
appropriate positions in an organization, with an explanation.
- The group should have a slide that summarizes all the main points and the conclusion.
Overall, they delivered an outstanding presentation.

● Debate
In terms of the debate, the inquiries made highlighted some specifics and facets that had not
yet been covered in the presentation, which, in our opinion, was very helpful in elaborating on the
theme of the presentation. For instance, there was a hypothetical situation where we had a chance to
be a chairman making a decision between ethics and efficiency. The team had done research deeply
so that they could answer questions quite convincingly. There was a controversial argument between
two teams (the presenting and debate groups) that generated many different perspectives and critical
thinking on the issue, which gave us more interesting views on the situation and the case. Both teams
had ideas for supporting and reinforcing their opinions. However, not all the problems were covered,
such as: the way the team decided the approach to disabled people.

b. What we’ve learned

- Through five questions from the case study of chapter 4, we have learned that disabled people
can be a hidden talent! Albergo Etico illustrates how a business may employ individuals with
disabilities and be both financially successful and socially responsible. The hotel's good
relationship with local sports centers inspires other global organizations to hire more disabled
workers. In actuality, the organization can gain a lot by hiring impaired persons. They
frequently exhibit strong work ethics, sound expertise, unique perspectives, great retention
rates, and other qualities. We shouldn't despise them or feel sorry for them because doing so
could damage their egos. Instead, in order to improve our society, we should be more
accepting of individuals from all backgrounds and offer them the opportunity to contribute
their strengths and expertise.
- In contrast, there are disadvantages to hiring impaired personnel. Here, managers play a
crucial role. First, they must consider a variety of factors: workload, reward, training,
challenges and so on; otherwise, they will risk overlooking the disabled’s promising work
performance and thus, make bad decisions. Next, compared to normal employees, training the
disabled requires more time, so the managers should show greater patience, compassion, and
passion. Moreover, in order to eliminate workplace discrimination and harassment, managers
should run a program that trains employees on proper behavior to create a friendly
environment for both disabled and non-disabled ones so that everyone can collaborate well.
