LEARNING ACTIVITY SHEET IN GENERAL CHEMISTRY 1

Properties of Matter
Name of Learner: ______________________________________
Grade Level: 12____________________________________
Strand/Track: STEM-ACADEMIC_______________________
Section: ______________________________________
Date: _______________ _______________________

AS
A. Background Information for Learners
The lesson is about properties of matter. It involves activities which can help you to

G
master the assigned competency.
Properties of Matter
It refers to the characteristics, traits or qualities. This only means that properties of

N
matter are about the observable characteristics, traits or qualities of matter.

Two Major Classifications of the Properties of Matter

TA
1. Physical Property of Matter- This refers to the characteristic or trait of matter
that can be observed or perceived with our senses easily without changing its
chemical composition.
a. Intensive Physical Property - This is the characteristic or trait of matter that
BA

does not depend on the amount.

Examples:
 Ductility is the ability of substance to be stretched into wire.
 Malleability is the ability of substance to be hammered or transformed
into thin sheet.
 Diffusion is the ability of matter to be scattered or spread out.
O

b. Extensive Physical Property- It is the characteristic or trait of matter which is

dependent on the amount or quantity.
 Examples of extensive physical properties of matter are size, mass,
SD

volume, density, length and width.

2. Chemical Property of Matter- This is the characteristic or trait that can be
observed when a matter reacts to another substance.
Examples: Combustibility/flammability and oxidation like rusting

B. Learning Competency with code

Use properties of matter to identify substances and to separate them
(STEM_GC11MP1a-b-5).
