BSIT 1 – SECTION 12

Define internet

 The Internet is a vast network that connects computers worldwide. People can share
information and communicate via the Internet from any location with an Internet
connection.

How the Internet Works?

 The Internet serves a single purpose: it transports computerized information (also

known as data) from one location to another. The machines that comprise the Internet
treat all information in the same manner. In this regard, the Internet is similar to the
postal service. Letters are simply passed from one location to another, regardless of who
sent them or what messages they contain. The mail service's job is to move letters from
one location to another, not to worry about why people write letters in the first place;
the same is true for the Internet.
just like the mail service, the Internet's simplicity means it can handle many different
kinds of information helping people to do many different jobs. It's not specialized to
handle emails, Web pages, chat messages, or anything else: all information is handled
equally and passed on in exactly the same way.

Define world wide web

 The World Wide Web, commonly known as the Web, is an information system where
documents and other web resources are identified by Uniform Resource Locators, which
may be interlinked by hypertext, and are accessible over the Internet.

How the world wide web works?

 To view webpages, you must use a Web browser, also known as a browser. Web
browsers are programs that use the Internet to display text, data, images, animation,
and video. Web browsers provide the software interface that allows you to click
hyperlinked resources on the World Wide Web with your mouse. Initially, web browsers
were only used to browse the Internet. They are now more universal and enable users
to perform a wide range of tasks, such as searching, e-mailing, transferring multimedia
files, participating in discussion groups, and much more. Web browsers that are
commonly used include Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, and Safari.
What are other Internet Services

 Digital Subscriber Line (DSL)

 Cable Modem
 Fiber
 Wireless Networks
 Satellite Connection
 Broadband over Powerlines (BPL)

What is netiquette

 Netiquette is a combination of two words, namely internet and etiquette, which means
ethics on the internet. That is, ethics, which are manners, are also applied when using
the internet. Netiquette serves as a rule for internet users.

What is ISP?

 An Internet service provider (ISP) is a company that provides Internet access to

customers. Data can be transmitted using a variety of technologies, including dial-up,
DSL, cable modem, wireless, or dedicated high-speed interconnects, and is often
referred to simply as "the provider." ISPs typically allow their customers to
communicate with one another by providing Internet email accounts, usually with
multiple email addresses at the customer's discretion.

How are you connected to the internet and the world wide web?

 It connected the world in new and unexpected ways, making it more easier for people
to get, share, and discuss information. It enabled people to share their ideas and efforts
via social networking sites, blogs, and video sharing. People were able to share
information much more easily because of the internet and world wide web.

What will you observe proper etiquette on the Web and internet?

 The internet etiquette or netiquette is important because, without this, we will not
respect others and be polite online. It's incredibly easy to learn and can be applied in
almost any situation online, so we suggest learning these rules of netiquette in terms of
sending, replying and confidentiality.
