● Kalimat yang terdiri dari satu subjek dan satu predikat.

● Kalimat yang mampu berdiri sendiri

Complex Sentence ?
Kalimat yang terdiri dari dua klausa (main clause and sub clause)
dan menggunakan subordinate conjunction ( when,where,if,
while,etc)

Example:
1. If I have free time, I will visit you.
2. They met me when they were in Bali.
3. She had been here before she called you.
4. We feel nervous when we speak in front of many people.

Main Clause Sub Clause

Main Clause = (Induk Kalimat), dapat berdiri sendiri ,dan berpotensi menjadi
kalimat.
Sub Clause = ( Anak Kalimat), tidak dapat berdiri sendiri.

 The Explanation of Compound
Sentence
● Kalimat yang terdiri dari 2 induk kalimat (2 main clauses)

● 2 Kalimat tersebut biasanya dihubungkan oleh kata sambung

(Coordinate conjunction).

Example:
1. She is smart, but she is not diligent.
2. They are singing and I am cooking some food.
3. My father will go home and bring many toys.
 Coordinate Conjunction
FOR: karena
AND: dan
NOR: dan…..tidak…

FANBOYS BUT: tetapi

OR: atau
YET: tetapi
SO: sehingga
 Example
FOR: She is studying, for her exam will begin tomorrow.
AND: My mom was a teacher and My father was a doctor.
NOR: Ann is beautiful nor Is she cruel.
BUT: We enjoyed our vocation but it was expensive
OR: You should eat more, or you will make yourself ill.
YET: We enjoyed our vocation, yet it was expensive
SO: Her exam will be begun tomorrow, so she is studying.

And, But, and Or
bisa menghubungkan antara word, phrase, and clause.
For, So, Yet, Nor
Hanya menghubungkan antara clause.
For, So, Yet
sebelumnya terdapat tanda koma.
Khusus NOR
Terdapat pada inversi (susun balik V+S).
 Matius bisa berangkat ke Makassar pada hari Jum’at atau
Sabtu.
Matius can leaves for Makassar on Friday or Sunday.

Matius itu dermawan tetapi Dayat itu pelit.

Matius is generous but Dayat is stingy
Matius is generous, yet Dayat is stingy.

Matius is kind and he is not arrogant.

Matius is kind nor is he arrogant.

 Compound-Complex Sentence
• Kalimat yang terdapat minimal 2 induk kalimat (main
clause) dan satu anak kalimat (sub clause)
Example:
1. I will do my duty and my mother will help me, because my
duty is too difficult.
2. She always accompany me but now she is getting sick
When I really need her.
3. I don’t know Why he is absent for I didn’t pick him up this
morning.
