An independent clause is a clause that can stand alone as a sentence ( it

expresses a complete thought). A dependent clauses (or subordinate clause)
is one that cannot stand alone as a complete sentence (it does not express a
complete thought).

Remember that a clause has a subject and a verb

Simple Sentences
A simple sentence is also called an
independent clause.

It contains a subject and a verb and

expresses a complete thought.

Ex:
Scott plays tennis in the morning.
COMPOUND SENTENCES
Compound Sentences
A compound sentence joins two or more independent clauses
with a coordinator such as and, or but, or a semi-colon.

Eg: Alex is beautiful and her brother is handsome.

Alex has two books; Cam has four.
I love her but sometimes, she can be really bad-tempered.
You can hang out with me or you can stay home with your
sister.
