ARTIST MAJOR WORK
MUSIC
Antonio R. Buenaventura  History of Fantasy, Triumphal March, Echoes
of the Past, Second Symphony in E-flat, Ode to
Freedom, and Echoes from the Philippines are
a few of his well-known marches.
 Prelude and Fugue in G Minor, Philippine
Triumphant, Symphony in C Major, Mindanao
Sketches, and Concert Overture are only a few
of his well-known symphonic compositions.
Jose Maceda His major works include Ugma-ugma, Pagsamba,
Udlot-udlot, Kubing, Agungan, Ugnayan, Aroding,
Ading, Siasid, and Suling-suling.
Levi Celerio Some of his famous pieces are Sa Ugoy ng Duyan,
Dahil sa Isang Bulaklak, Saan Ka Man Naroroon,
Ang Pipit, Kung Tayo’y Magtanim, Kalesa, etc. He
was also the lyricist of the famous Christmas song,
Ang Pasko ay Sumapit.
DANCE
Francisca Reyes Aquino  Her researched entitled “Philippine Dances
and Games” contain the country’s unrecorded
celebrations, folk dances, rituals and games.
 Aside from her thesis, she also published
many books regarding Philippine dances like
Fundamentals Dance Steps and Music,
Gymnastics for Girls, Philippine National
Dances, Philippine Folk Dances Vol. I-VI, etc.
Ramon Obusan His Folkloric group through their performances,
outreach works, and tours, inspired by many
Filipino to embrace the Filipino culture. Some of
his full-length presentations are Kayaw’68, Kayaw
‘78, Vamos a Belen! Series, Noon Po Sa Amin,
Kasaysayan ng Lahi, Maynila, and the Rare and
Unpublished Dances.
Alice Reyes She skillfully combined ballet, modern dance, and
ethnic dance from the Phillipines to create an
original contemporary dance routine. Through her
performances, tours, community outreach efforts,
and lecture-demonstrations in schools, she helped
promote contemporary dance in the Philippines.
Amada, Tales of the Manuyu, Bayanihan
Remembered, Rama Hari, and At A Maranaw
Gathering are a some of her best-known works.
THEATER
Daisy Avellana Productions where she became a part were Othello,
Macbeth in Black, Tatarin, Portrait of the Artist as
Filipino, Diego Silang, Walang Sugat, etc. She
founded the Barangay Theater Guild that
popularizes Philippine theater and dramatic art.
Wilfredo Ma. Guerrero He established the UP Mobile Theater out of
introducing and popularizing Philippine theater in
different parts of the country. His major works
include Wanted: A Chaperon, Condemned,
Perhaps, In Unity, Three Rats, The Forsaken
House, Frustrations, etc.
Salvador Bernal He has comparable superior quality in almost all of
his designs. In producing creative and unique sets
and costumes, he used local materials. Bernal
established the PATDAT (Philippine Associations
of Theater Designers and Technicians) 1in 1995 to
promote theater design.
VISUAL ARTS
Fernando Amorsolo Lighting is the most noticeable aspect of his
artwork. His trademark was the His paintings'
themes appear to shine as a result of his
backlighting method. Another noteworthy aspect of
his work is how it captures the aesthetic and
cultural legacy of the Philippines. Planting Rice,
Dalagang Bukid, The Mestiza, and Maiden in a
Stream are some of his works.
Guillermo Tolentino He was known for creating monuments and bust
figures of Philippine Heroes like Andres Bonifacio
and Jose Rizal and Philippine Presidents like
Manuel Quezon and Ramon Magsaysay. He
created the UP Oblation, which became the
representation of the academic freedom of the
university.
Napoleon Abueva He made use of wide range of materials in his
works like different types of hardwood, stones and
metals. Among his notable works are Nine Muses,
Kaganapan, Stations of the Cross, Sunburst, and
The Transfiguration.

LITERATURE
Cirilo Bautista Summer Guns, Galaw ng Asoge, Words, and
Battlefield are a some of his best works. He spoke
about literary advances and strategies during
literary workshops and talks he gave all across the
nation. He established literary organizations
including the Iligan Writers Workshop, the Baguio
Writers Group, and the Philippine Literary Art
Council.
Nick Joaquin The Spanish colonial past of the country and the
social changes evident in the Philippines was
explored in his literary pieces. Included in his
works are Dona Geronima, The Order of
Melchizedek, The Ballad of Five Battles, Rizal in
Zaga, Cave, and Shadows, and The Woman, Who
Have Two Navels.
Edith Tiempo Her poems show how the fusion of intellect and
feelings produced creative works. Her poems
"Little Marmoset" and "Bonsai," in particular, are
well-known. She emphasizes morals in her short
stories. Together with her husband, she established
the Siliman National Writer's Workshop in
Dumaguete City.
FILM
Lamberto V. Avellana His first film directed was Sakay that won the Best
Picture of 1939. His award-winning films are
Badjao, Anak, Dalita, and Kalderong Pilak.
Lino Brocka Some of his produced films include Wanted:
Perfect Mother, Tubog sa Ginto, Tinimbang Ka
Ngunit Kulang, Orapronobis, Maynila: Sa Kuko ng
Liwanag, Bona, and Makiusap Ka sa Diyos.
Ronald Alan K. Poe Fernando Poe Jr., a well-known star in Philippine
cinema, is legendary. He made his acting debut in a
number of Filipino action films, including Totoy
Bato, Ang Batang Maynila, Mga Alabok sa Lupa,
Ang Probinsyano, and Ako ang Katarungan. He
performed in fantasy films like as Ang Alamat,
Ang Panday, and Ang Pagbabalik ng Lawin. In
addition to being an artist, he was a writer, director,
and producer.
ARCHITECTURE
Pablo S. Antonio His significant works include are Far Eastern
University Administration and Science buildings;
and theater like the Lyric Theater, Ideal Theater,
and Galaxy Theater.
Leandro V. Locsin His grandest work is the Istana Nurul Iman (Palace
of Religious Light). It’s a mix of Islamic and
Malayan themes and modern lines.

Juan F. Napkil To name some of his major works are the Avenue
Theater and Hotel Building, Quezon Institute
Buildings, International Eucharistic Congress Altar,
and the renovated Quiapo Church.

ACTIVITY 3
MUSIC
Jose Maceda – His entire artistic life was devoted to comprehending and promoting the folk music of the
Philippines. He did fieldwork and study on traditional music, which led to his extensive collection of
recorded music from many regions of the nation. He not only conducted study but also composed some
music using traditional musical forms as inspiration.
DANCE
Loenor Orosa Goquingco – The "Trailblazer," also known as the "Mother of Philippine Theater Dance"
and "Dean of Filipino Performing Arts Critics," made a significant contribution to the development of
Philippine dance by creating original works utilizing ballet folkloric and Asian forms.
THEATER
Honorata “Atang” dela Rama – Began her careers in theater at a young age. She took on several parts in
numerous performances, where she rose to fame and was dubbed the Queen of Kundiman. She
entertained native communities around the nation with Kundiman and Filipino melodies. She joined the
sarsuelas Dalagang Bukid, Mascota, Pangarap ni Rosa, and others.
VISUAL ARTS
Fernando Amorsolo – Known as "The Grand Old Man of Philippine Art." Lighting is the most noticeable
aspect of his artwork. His signature technique, backlighting, gives the subjects in his paintings the
appearance of glowing.
LITERATURE
Edith Tiempo – Produced a great deal of impressive short tales and poetry. Her poems show how the
fusion of intellect and feelings produced creative works.
FILM
Lino Brocka – An honorable director who embraced "freedom of speech" in his productions. Through his
performances, he served as a social activist who offered hope to the society's outcasts.
ARCHITECTURE
Pablo S. Antonio - He was well-known for his straightforward architectural style, which featured straight
lines and useful curves. His primary structural principles were austerity and functionality.
