PCA-Political Frame Worksheet

Worksheet Objectives:

1. Describe the political frame

2. Apply the political frame to your personal case situation

Complete the following making sure to support your ideas and cite from the textbook and other
course materials per APA guidelines. After the peer review, you have a chance to update this and
format for your Electronic Portfolio due in Module 6.

1) Briefly restate your situation from Module 1 and your role.

I am a part-time program instructor at the Boys and Girls Club and am responsible for

implementing new and existing programs at the Club to earn or maintain grants.

Additionally, I support the full-time staff with creative efforts and create a safe and

exciting environment for our members. While the Boys and Girls Club is a national

organization, clubs are separated into districts, and each district has its CEO. I am

affiliated with a more privileged club, meaning that many of our members' families are

also most of our generous donors. However, not all clubs have the same privilege as this

district; therefore, they must work three times as hard to collect the funding to maintain

staff wages and organize programs and opportunities for their members.

2) Describe how the politics of the organization influenced the situation.

Like every club, the Boys and Girls Club sectors are responsible for appointing their

leaders who will inspire each club to deliver the organization's mission and values. The

CEO is then accountable for building coalitions for the greatness of organizational

outcomes. Additionally, these coalitions lead to the possibilities that are available not

only for staff but for club members. At this moment, clubs are receiving funding,

reaching membership goals, and implementing creative projects within the clubs, which

would demonstrate how the influence of the CEO would be successful. However, the

location of the club impacts the club significantly. As opposed to clubs in metro areas, the

Boys and Girls Club that I work for gains a lot of support from members' families,

making it easier to maintain consistent programming and staffing.

However, the leaders of an organization might influence the alliances made to benefit the

club. The most influential groups in the organization are formed among the employees.

Due to the scarce resources, club employees are pressured into finding solutions for

achieving their goals. Political challenges are mainly solved through shared information

and expertise among curious employees, and club leaders are rewarded. This can

occasionally create conflict because employees feel as though their efforts are not being

recognized. However, the mutual moral responsibility for the happiness and success of

the students is always enough to keep the organization functional.

3) Recommend how you would use organizational politics for an alternative course of

action regarding your case.

The possibilities for political success at the Boys and Girls Club are straightforward. Due to the

social responsibility that is fulfilled by this job, it is vital to keep the strategies for maintaining

successful organizational politics simple. The political framework of the Boys and Girls Club can

be improved by placing inspirational and compassionate people in leadership positions.

Passionate leaders will encourage powerful coalitions and cooperation to deliver the company's

mission.

Another opportunity that I see for the Boys and Girls Club's political structure would be how its

design. Right now, the organization receives feedback from parent surveys and employees leaving

the organization. While both methods can be beneficial, there is no one to provide new

perspectives for effectiveness. The overall interest in the company's organizational goals binds

employees and leaders together; however, more attention can be given to the needs of the people

who keep the organization functioning. There are positive dynamics in place; however, the

organization cannot fulfill its true potential until minor adjustments are made to the political

framework of the company.

4) Reflect on what you would do or not do differently given what you have learned

about this frame.

There are specific limitations to the political activity that non-profit organizations can associate

with. Therefore, it is essential to utilize their power and leadership effectively. I think each sector

of the Boys and Girls Club must appoint a leader that reflects their communities values because it

helps develop a relationship between the leaders and followers. Additionally, many challenges

arise from finances; however, it empowers employees to reach their goals even through

uncertainty.

I have learned that non-profit organizations cannot be designed similarly to other organizations. I

think the organization’s positive impact on many lives and perseverance through the pandemic

accurately demonstrates the intention involved in the work. I see how hard people work to get the

impossible done, and I think it’s essential for there to be leaders who can encourage employees to

be creative and hopeful during difficult times. As I’ve mentioned, the company’s mission is

enough to attract people, but the leadership will keep workers anchored and driven.
