Safety Charter
Komatsu will provide and maintain safe and healthy working conditions and follow operating practices that result in an improved safety and
health environment for its employees. Safety standards, both internal and external will be strictly observed in all operations.

Every employee is accountable for following all prescribed safe work practices, procedures and policies. No job will be considered so urgent
– no schedule will be considered so rigid that the time cannot be taken to perform the job in a safe manner.

We hold every manager, every supervisor, and all staff members accountable for exercising their professional management skills in every
reasonable, practical, and timely way to eliminate hazards and to prevent injury to the work force in their charge.

Safety is a condition of employment and must be considered an integral part of every activity in the organization. Management policy is that
the prevention of losses in the work environment is to be treated as any other managerial function. Every manager and supervisor must

embrace the responsibility to achieve organizational goals in reducing accidents and property loss.

No department will be considered properly managed regardless of its proficiency in other management areas unless it maintains an
acceptable level of safety performance.

Safety Principles
1. All injuries can be prevented.
2. No task is so important, no schedule so urgent, that the job cannot be done safely.
3. Everyone’s involvement is essential.
4. Open, honest, and effective communication is essential. If unsure, always ask.
5. Everyone is accountable for providing a safe working environment.
6. Everyone is responsible for their own safety, as well as the safety of others.
7. Ensuring our employees are competent is essential to working safely
8. Working safely is a condition of employment.

Cardinal Safety Rules – are non-negotiable and breaches may result in termination of employment
1. Compliance to lockout and tagout and energy isolation/ testing procedures are mandatory.
2. Follow approved and established safe rigging practices and procedures. Working, walking, or standing under suspended loads is prohibited. Entering
defined lift protection zones without authorization is prohibited. Utilize No-Touch tooling as required by lifting and rigging operating procedures.
3. Compliance to confined space entry procedures is compulsory.
4. Always follow fall protection and prevention procedures when working at heights.
5. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be utilized at all times. This includes but is not limited to safety glasses, safety shoes,
hardhats, task-specific gloves, hearing protection, fall protection, face shields, respiratory protection, and arc flash clothing. Refer to your location-
specific PPE program/procedures for required PPE types.
6. Never remove or disable machine guarding devices or other safety devices.
7. Never place any portion of your body into a “Line of fire” position.
8. All incidents (injuries, illnesses, near misses, unsafe conditions, environmental impacts, and at-risk behaviors) including incidents related to
equipment damage must be immediately reported to your supervisor/performance leader. Supervisors shall take immediate steps to remedy all EHS
concerns, conduct a root cause analysis and appropriately prioritize additional corrective actions.
9. Mobile machinery operators must be authorized to operate mobile machinery and hold appropriate qualifications/certifications. Operators must
complete and document all pre-use mobile machinery inspections prior to use.
10. Follow and comply with all regional and local material handling/manual lifting rules. Never exceed local manual lifting safe weight limits.
11. Perform mandatory FLRA/KYT/SLAM and or risk assessment identifying, assessing, and controlling hazards prior to and during the execution of job
tasks per risk assessment procedures. Apply stop work where potential hazards are identified or questions on safety exist.

Health and safety are a priority in all of the work that we do, and we are committed to an injury-free workplace therefore for you and your
co-worker’s safety
1. Evaluate the hazards and risks surrounding them
2. Evaluate the safety habits and behaviors of yourself and others
3. Take action and challenge unsafe acts or behaviors
4. All employees are obligated to initiate a stop work engagement upon witnessing any unsafe action or condition

Stop → Assess → Engage → Act

There shall never be any blame or fault put on any employee’s call for a “Stop Work Order”
