 State what was done satisfactorily.
De-briefing
 Ask the lead role for comments.
 Identify by asking the students what needs to be improve or the errors done
in the exercise.
 Improvement should have general consensus.
 Encourage discussion and trainee participation.

Note : Execution = 20 minutes per trainee, Briefing = 5 minutes, Debriefing = 5 minutes (Total
30 minutes)

Activities : Describe the methods to carry out physical searches and non-intrusive inspections, to
include the following:

1. The dialogue to the visitor before the search and inspection:


Good morning/good afternoon ma'am/ Sir welcome to the M/V Lacson to be followed by checking and
inspection

2. Search of personal effects/baggage


a) The step by step procedure of search:

Step 1-The visitor should be asked to stand with his arms raised on the side and legs slightly apart.

Step 2- start the search from the collar downwards running your hands over the shoulders, below the
arms, chest, front/back, paying attention to the spinal area down the legs, socks and shoes. Run your
hands over the arms to ensure nothing in hidden check the watch for any signs of tampering.

Step 3 - If a hat is worn, ask the visitor to remove the hat and inspect its insides.

Step 4-Ask the visitor to take out anything that appears suspect in the pocket.

Step 5- If a coat is worn, inspect the labels and collar carefully.

Step 6-Check the contents of any baggage, briefcase or toolbox.

b) The protocol of taking out an item from the bag (for closer checking):
Inspect the content of any bags, briefcase, of toolbox carried by the visitor closer to see whether
anything is harmful in it or if it does not match the work that the visitor is expected to do. Example, large
tools inside the bag of a person who has come for Computer repairs.

3. Proper physical search of person (using the hand)


a) The sequence and manner of doing the physical search:
The crew must conduct the physical search for visitors with respect and in a manner that reduces
the potential a misunderstanding or disrespect leading to a confrontation.

b) Dialogue of asking to take out an item from the visitor’s pocket.

Ask the visitors with respect to avoid disrespect. Example: Hello ma’am/ sir good morning can you
please take out all the items in your bag/ pocket because this is part of our inspection. Thank you

4. Physical search of person (using the portable metal detector)


a) The procedure of pre-use check:
Ma’am / sir please kindly relax because I'm going to check. You using the metal detector. Please
stand with this arms raised on the side and his legs slightly apart.

b) The manner of holding the detector and the distance from the visitor’s body
The metal detector align to the part of the body up to down. The distance should not be close for the
visitor is comfortable.

c) The sequence of visitor’s body to check


Start from the collar downwards running your hands over the shoulder, below the arms, chest,
front, back, down legs, sock and shoes.

With respect and in a manner that reduces the potential of misunderstandings or disrespect
leading to a confrontation.
