III. LESSON PROPER

Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity
A. Daily Routine
1. Prayer
Let us begin our class with a short prayer.
______, please lead the prayer.
(Student will lead the prayer)
2. Greetings
Good day explorer!
Good day, Ma’am!
Are you ready to discover new things today?
Yes Ma’am.
That’s good to hear.
3. Checking of Classroom Condition
Who are the cleaners for today? Please, raise
your hand.
(The cleaners will raise their hand.)
I commend you for maintaining the cleanliness
of our classroom. Let us give them a round of
applause.
(Students will clap their hands)
4. Checking Attendance
Is there any absent today?
None, Ma’am
Very Good!
5. Checking of Assignment
Last time, I gave you an assignment. Did you
make it?
Yes, Ma’am

That’s good. Bring out your assignment and

pass it properly.
(Students will pass their papers)
B. Review
Yesterday, we discuss about Mountain Belts.
Based from the diagram, what do you call the
center of the Earth?
. Inner Core
Exactly! What about the layer of the earth
which is composed of iron and nickel?
Outer Core
Correct! What is the term for the thickest part
of the Earth?
Mantle
Very Good! What about the thinner layer of the
Earth which is also its outer layer?
Crust
That’s right!
It is good to know that you really understand
our previous topic.
C. Motivation
Let us start our new lesson with an activity.
This is entitled “FIX ME I’M BROKEN.”
Each of you will receive a piece of paper.
Those who will get the same color will be the
groupmates. The paper that you have is a piece
of puzzle. You have to work with your
groupmates to fix the puzzle assigned to you.
The group who will finish fixing the puzzle
first will be the winner of this activity.

Congratulations Group __ for winning the

activity!
(students will clap their hands)
D. Lesson Presentation
Let us now observe the picture you’ve formed
in our previous activity. What is the picture?
A map
Correct! It is a map of Plate tectonics.
What do you call the line that shows where an
area ends and another area begin?
It is called boundary
Very good! What would be the term if we are
talking about the line that shows where the two
plates meet?
It is plate boundary
Exactly! Our topic today is all about the
different types of plate boundaries. At the end
of the lesson, you should be able to: (1)
differentiate the types of plate boundaries; and
(2) identify the geologic structures formed
when plates collide, move apart or slide past
each other, and (3) appreciate the importance
of the different types of boundaries in real life
situations.
E. Discussion
Let us compare the map that you’ve formed to
another map. What are the things you notice in
it which you cannot find in the other map?
There are arrows in the map
That’s right. The arrows show the different
movement of plate boundaries and because of
that movement, geologic structures such as
volcanoes, mountain ranges and etc. were
formed.
What can you observe in the arrows, are they
pointing to the same direction?
No ma’am
The different direction of the arrows pertains to
the different ways that plate tectonics can act.
These are the three types of plate boundaries.
The first types is represented by the picture.

Where are the two arrows pointing at?

The two arrows are pointing towards each
other.
If the arrows point towards each other, what
will happen to the two plates?
The plates will collide.
If the plates are colliding we call that type of
boundary as the Convergent boundaries. This
type of boundaries can be a collision of oceanic
and continental plate, two oceanic plate, and
two continental plate. Because of this activity,
volcanoes, trenches and mountain ranges were
formed. Who can give an example of mountain
ranges?
(students answer may cary)
An example of mountain ranges which was
formed in convergent boundary is the
Himalayans Mountains.
The next type of boundary is shown in the
picture

What can you say about the two arrows

The two arrows are pointing away from each
other
Very good! If that is the case what will happen
to the two plates?
The two plates will move apart.
Exactly! When two plates are moving apart, we
called that type of boundary as Divergent
boundary. As the plates move apart, new crust
is being created by magma pushing up from the
mantle. If that is the case, what landforms do
you think will form if magma is involve?
It can form volcanoes
Excellent! The plates’ activities in the
divergent boundary can lead to the formation
of volcanoes, rift valleys, seafloors and ridges.
Who can give an example of volcano?
(students answer may cary)
An example of volcano which was formed in
divergent boundary is Mount Kilimanjaro of
Kenya
Now let us proceed to the next types of
boundary which is be represented by this
picture

Where is the direction of the two arrows?

The arrows are pointing in opposite direction.
Nice! If two adjacent arrows are pointing in
different direction, what will happen to the two
plates?
The plates will slide pass each other.
That’s right! If two plates are sliding pass each
other, we call that type of boundary as the
Transform Plate boundary. If the plates are
sliding pass each other, what do you think will
happen to the ground?
It will shake.
Correct! What is the term we use when the
ground is shaking?
It is called earthquake
Very Good! Transform plate boundary causes
earthquakes.
We all know that earthquakes was caused by a
sudden movement along faults of the earth.
Who can give an example of fault?
San Andreas fault
Now let us see what type of boundary occur in
the Philippine sea plates?

Based from the picture, what type of boundary

occurred in the Philippine Sea plate?
Convergent Boundary
How did you say so?
The Philippine Sea plate will collide to the
Eurasian plate.
That’s a nice observation. Did you understand
the difference between the types of boundaries?
Yes Ma’am
Do you have any question?
None Ma’am
F. Application
To check if you really understand our topic for
today, let us have another activity.
Each group will receive three cookies and
colored papers. Your task is to create an
illustration of the three types of boundaries.
The cookies will serve as the plate tectonics
and you have to be creative in labeling your
illustrations. You will do this activity within 3
minutes then you have to select one
representative to present your output. You will
be graded according to this rubric (attached at
the end of the lesson plan. The group who will
gain the highest number of points will be the
winner and will receive an award after the
class.
(students will perform the activity)
Good job class. It seems that you really
understand our topic.
G. Generalization
Let us have a short review about our discussion
today. Again, who can explain what happens in
a convergent boundary?
Two plates are colliding and it formed
volcanoes, trenches and mountain ranges
Exactly! What about in divergent boundary?
In divergent boundaries, plates are moving
apart and it creates rift valleys, volcanoes,
seafloors and ridges
That’s right! In transform plate boundary, what
happens to the plate tectonics?
The plates in transform boundary are sliding
pass each other which is the cause of
earthquakes.
Very Good class!
H. Valuing
Can you imagine our world without geologic
structures such as volcanoes, mountains which
were formed in the different types of
boundary?
(students’ answer may vary)
As we have discussed earlier, convergent
boundary happens in the Philippine Sea Plate.
Last January 29, 2022, I received a text from
NDRRMO which gives warning to us about the
activity of Taal Volcano. What do you think is
the importance of knowing what type of
boundary occur in the place where you lived
in?
(students’ answer may vary)
Do you think that the occurrence of the types
of boundaries is necessary in our life? Why?
(students’ answers may vary)
