Detailed Lesson Plan in Science

I. Objectives
At the end of the discussion, the pupils should be able to:
A. identify the different properties of matter;
B. describe properties such as color, shape, size, weight, texture,
hardness, magnetism and flexibility; and
C. distinguish the physical and chemical properties of matter.
II. Subject Matter
A. Topic: Properties of Matter
B. References: Ramos E.G. The New Science Links Rex Publishing Inc.
pp. 172-180
C. Concepts: The properties of matter are color, shape, size, weight,
texture, hardness, magnetism and flexibility.
D. Materials: Visual Aids, Pictures
E. Values Integration: cooperation, self-esteem, sportsmanship

III. Procedure
Teacher's Hint Teacher's Activity Student's Activity

A. Preliminary "Before we begin our (one student will lead the

Activities class this morning, let us prayer)
ask the guidance of our
Prayer Almighty God. Would you
please lead the prayer?

Greetings and "Good morning children!" "Good morning teacher!"

Checking of
Attendance "Who's absent today?" (students will tell who's
absent for the day)

B. Motivation "I will divide the class into

two groups."
Group A and B.

Each group will be given

jumbled letters. As I say (The whole class will
go, everyone should participate to find out the
participate to arrange and words.)
figure out the word. The
word should be posted on
the board. The group,
who will win, will get the
prize.
What is the word that you
got? It's PROPERTIES OF
MATTER
Very good. Thank you!

C. Recall "Okay. Before we start our

new lesson, let's have a
short review first."

"What is Matter?" "Matter is anything that

occupies space and has
mass."

"What are the three states "The three states of

of matter? matter are solid, liquid
and gas."

Very good. Your answers

are correct. Thank you.

D. Lesson Proper ACTIVITY 1:

(The teacher will show to
Activity the pupils three real
object.)

"Wallet, water and balloon

teacher."

What is the shape of the

wallet? Rectangle.

Correct! Can you touch it?

Yes.
Next, what can you say
about water? It is a good example for
liquid.
Lastly, what can you say
about the balloons? The balloons are colorful
and there is an air inside.
Very good. We call this
thing as matter. "Matter"
Everybody say "Matter"

Analysis Our topic for today is

about Properties of
Matter. So let's discuss
each property for you to
understand.
Shape- They could be
round, square, triangular,
oval or rectangular, etc.
Size- They could be
small, large or huge.
Color- It is a hue of an
object as perceived by
humans.
Hardness- It is the
resistance of solid matter
to external force.
Weight - A measurement
of the amount of matter
present in an object.
Texture- Refers to how
something feels to you
when you touch it.
Magnetism- Is the force
exerted by magnets when
they attract or repulse
each other.
Flexibility- Describes an
objects ability to bend.
