1. What are the ways to ensure that you follow the Ethical and Legal Standards as
a nurse?
Ethical standards provide nurses with a moral compass to perform their duties
ethically and assist them in managing challenging circumstances. One of the
principles that foster high standards of care and effort are respecting autonomy
and patient self-determination. This means that as a nurse, I must perceive my
patients as unique individuals with an innate right to hold their views,
perspectives, values, and beliefs. It is my responsibility to encourage them to
have their own decisions and inform them that they have the right to reject
treatments and suggestions. Another standard I can uphold is to maintain patient
confidentiality. I can protect my patients’ privacy by ensuring nondisclosure of
their current condition, medical history, and basic information. Also, maintaining
veracity in a nurse-patient relationship can avoid the relay of false information
and confusion. I have to be completely transparent and truthful even with the ugly
news they have to know.
Moreover, I believe that acting with beneficence could get me far. A nurse's
primary role is to promote patient-centered care that aids in their patient's
recovery. I am obliged to return the conversation to the patient's priorities and
preferences when the views of doctors, family members, and social workers
differ. I also have to take note that patients have the right to take part in the
formulation and execution of their care if they are competent to do so. In addition,
I am required to obtain patient consent before any procedure and treatments they
may receive. And if patients refuse to partake in the activities, I have to respect
their wishes. Furthermore, being held accountable for the consequences of my
actions would emphasize the value of the nursing profession. Lastly, I must
always remember that justice is fairness - that I must be fair when providing care,
and care should be equitably, justly, and fairly distributed among varying groups
of patients.
2. How will you ensure that you will not commit negligence or malpractice?
make mistakes as they would be detrimental and could be fatal. Nurses might be
physically and emotionally exhausted most of the time but it is our responsibility
to remain composed and heedful when faced with patients. Despite the
challenges and difficulties this profession entails, I’ll be able to avoid committing
negligence or malpractice by establishing healthy communication built with clear
and effective nurse-patient relationships. It is important to always ask questions
to my patients, listen to what they say, and provide honest feedback. In addition,
effective administrative recordkeeping must be accomplished from time to time.
Unambiguous documentation can be helpful to describe a specific scenario and
explain what happened. Also, I must stay up to date on current standards as it
will keep me informed on all modifications and additions to the standards I am
obliged to abide by throughout my employment, in addition to being aware of the
current requirements that apply to me.
I am looking forward to meeting you later, sir! I genuinely enjoy your class.
