The COVID-19 pandemic has displayed the interconnection of society around the
world. This coronavirus is considered the greatest challenge of science and
technology after world war II. What do you think is the effect of COVID-19 on the
environment, now and in the future? What is society's role in helping the science
and development research sector prevent the spread of the virus? What is the role
of science and technology to attain social protection and sustainable economy
while providing solutions for COVID-19, such as making vaccines and medicines?

Science and technology are always interconnected. When a new


body of knowledge of science was born, a new technology will
eventually appear base on the understanding of that knowledge.
Eventually, the new technology can facilitate in a lot of areas
in obtaining new knowledge. As a result, a new body of knowledge
will eventually be born, and the cycle repeat. Science and
technology have a lot of achievements in term of solving a
particular problem in different areas of human experience. COVID
19 was the greatest among hardest problem that science and
technology has to deal lately. A highly contagious virus that
infects the lungs of a person that shakes the world governing
bodies. Unfortunately, it was subjected to different conspiracy
theory. People should mitigate and spread accurate and helpful
information in order to combat this deadly virus, yet some still
spread misconception and confusion towards it. Taking this into
account, health individuals or institution must fight this
misinformation that is spread by conspiracy theorist by
educating citizens at least the basic knowledge for preventing
the spread of the daily virus, while finding the vaccines or
medicines that can fight the spread of the virus.

2. What are the impacts of science and technology in society in terms of economy,
leisure, employment, or unemployment? What do you think are the responsibilities
of science and technology in society? In your own opinion, does public trust in
science and technology matter during times of pandemic? Why?

Science and Technology provides understanding and application


different aspects of our daily life. With the advent of modern
technology, different forms of innovation were born such as
social media. Social media plays a vital role in our modern
society as more and more peoples start to become netizens, it
functions as a fast spreader of information. Due to its fast
dissemination of information, it served as medium for
misinformation and disinformation, which is very evident in the
time of pandemic. Social media became the home off information
containing conspiracies and misconception leading to distrust of
people to health institution and government. For this reason,
there are some people who deliberately disobey health protocols
in order to justify their misconception. In line with this,
science and technology must provide useful method that helps to
educate the misinformed individual. This is an issue of a public
trust and trust and must be dealt accordingly, for the absence
of public trust can create chaos.
