lifting of lockdown

Dear [insert name of employee]

I am sure you are aware that the Government imposed lockdown restrictions due to
coronavirus are being continually reviewed and have recently been subject to some
relaxations to the extent that our workplace is able to re-open/we are able to
welcome more employees back to the workplace.

You have been working from home in recent months due to the restrictions that were
placed on us and, whilst colleagues, in general terms, adapted well to that transition,
we are slowly and safely returning everyone to their office based roles in line with the
Government’s roadmap of opening up the economy.

I am therefore writing to inform you that your temporary home-working period will
end on [insert date] and you will be required to return to your normal place of work at
[insert address] on [insert date]. This marks a significant step forwards in our
business being able to return to its normal operations. We have initially prioritised
those who had been unable to successfully work from home and/or who had wanted
to get back to working from the office in the early part of the process and we are
beginning to transition more and more colleagues to their office based roles as part
of that plan.

[Optional]
Whilst some of you may have been able to cope successfully from home, we do not
consider that we, as a business, are able to properly support or supervise you
remotely on an ongoing or long-term basis. Sporadic, temporary working from home
arrangements might be suitable for a short period of time, but we simply cannot
sustain that indefinitely. We miss the connectivity, the speed of communication and
decision-making and the involvement of colleagues in key projects and
developments in service delivery. Your office based roles within the business are
integral to that objective and in order to for us to succeed in developing the services
which we offer, we need you to be here, working with us as part of that ongoing
project. We also have the infrastructure, the support network of shared service
teams, dedicated office equipment within a safe working environment which cannot,
in our view, be replicated from home.

The Government has put in place several new health and safety measures that must
be adhered to in order to keep our workplace as safe as possible. We have carried

out a risk assessment and I have set out below the adaptations to our working
arrangements that have been implemented:

Additionally, on your first day back at the workplace, you are required to [insert detail
on any measures implemented regarding the safe entry into the workplace].

These measures have been put in place for the protection of all of our workforce.
You have a role to play in ensuring a safe working environment and you are
therefore required to follow the above guidelines. Failure to do so may be deemed a
disciplinary offence and dealt with in accordance with our disciplinary procedure,
incurring a sanction up to and including dismissal.

In the coming days, you will receive a telephone call from your manager/I will
telephone you to discuss the specific arrangements. I appreciate that individual
circumstances may require some flexibility in our approach but I want to ensure that
as a team/department, we are contributing to the national effort to safely return
colleagues to their office-based roles. We will be happy to provide you with face
coverings to be worn on the commute to work so please raise this during the call and
we can arrange for this to be sent out to you.

May I take the opportunity to thank you for your co-operation despite the challenges
that we have all faced in recent times and for your hard work whilst working from
home. I also want to reassure you that we are doing all that we can to ensure the
success of the business whilst strictly adhering to all Government health and safety
requirements.

Yours sincerely
