PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVE

To have an ability to understand cultural norms and values not based on one’s own standards of what is right or
wrong but based on the subject culture.

RATIONALE

Differences in culture, era and geographical location also plays a role in the development of moral standards
and norms.

LESSON CONTENT

Cultural norms and values derive their meaning within a specific social context. However, there are moral
standards that are not dependent on culture as it is “universal” in nature and applicable through all cultures.

INSTRUCTIONAL PROCEDURES

A. Preparatory Stage

Reading materials are posted on e-learn, and students are expected to have read the
materials prior to class.

B. Learning Stage
1. Activity and Analysis
The Socratic Method: the students are asked questions about the topics. They are
also asked to give examples and answer situational questions applicable to the
topic.
2. Abstraction
With the aid of the Power point material, teacher discusses the lesson.

3. Application
Ask the class, to provide in groups, ten (10) cultural norms and values.

Can you impose your own moral standard and ethical views to your fellow Filipino?
Can you impose your own moral standard and ethical views to other people outside the Filipino
culture?

1. Ask the class, to provide in groups, ten (10) universal norms and values that are applicable to all
cultures.
