Reflection on SOAR 2.0

DISTRICT ROLL – OUT ON RESILIENCY PROJECT

Resiliency empowers people to accept and adapt to situations and move forward.
It is our capability to recover from difficult life events just like what this COVID-19
pandemic has brought to humankind and give this “new normal era.”

The term “new normal” was used to describe a situation in which what was
previous abnormal suddenly become a commonplace. The truth is we do not know for
sure. Uncertainty rules the day. And in certain times, when so much is beyond our
control, we unconditionally return to the basics, to what we can control. Essential best
practices are what we have been aiming because all of us are struggling in various
ways to find clarity in our decision-making, to maintain motivation while sheltering in
place and to tend consistently to our well-being.

We may not be able to control our circumstances, but we can control our daily
habits, choices and mindset. When the world is upside-down, we must keep ourselves
away from stress and build resilience.

On a much more modest scale, I take this opportunity to revisit my old hobby
which is planting and collecting flowering, cactus and succulent plants. This pandemic
brings us closer to our families and brings out the best in us by helping our relatives and
neighbors or other persons who are in need.

In times of uncertainty like this, the only positive things are the ones close at
hand how we structure and go about our days, whom we choose to connect with and
how we choose to be useful to others and the world. By leaning on proven habits and
mindsets, we can stay track and continue to be useful while also tending to our well-
being. We can build strength and resilience while positioning ourselves to hit the ground
running whenever the new normal enters the next phase.

Let us think and ponder this quote from a Resilience Coach, Mary Holloway,
“resilience is knowing that you are the only one that has the power and responsibility to
pick yourself up.”
