Note to Teachers on Placement Test A

The Let’s Smile Placement Test A has been designed to help teachers accurately place students
into the appropriate level of the series by evaluating students’ existing knowledge. The test
questions come directly from Let’s Smile 1 and Let’s Smile 2.

Students are assessed on all four skills at each level and the test is divided into three sections:
speaking, listening, reading and writing.
This paper-based test has been designed to be photocopiable, and it is also downloadable from
www.efuture-elt.com.

How to Administer Placement Test A


1. Print or photocopy the test pages.

2. M
 ake sure students are comfortable and know how to complete the questions.
Younger students may need help.

3. O
 nce students have finished the test, use the scoring rubric to help place them in the most
appropriate classes.

The student may not be ready to begin Let’s Smile 1. The student will
0–20
benefit from studying Let’s Smile Starter first.

The student knows some of the skills covered in Let’s Smile 1. Starting Let’s
21–50 Smile 1 following a brief review of Let’s Smile Starter is the recommended
course of action.

51–70 The student will benefit greatly from studying Let’s Smile 1.

The student knows the majority of skills covered in Let’s Smile 1. Starting
71–90 Let’s Smile 2 following a brief review of Let’s Smile 1 is the recommended
course of action.

The student is ready to begin Let’s Smile 3 or higher. To confirm student


91–100
level, administer Placement Test B.
