LESSON 1: PHILOSOPHY OF ART EDUCATION

 CHECK YOUR UNDERSTANDING

Post-Activity Assesment
As a pre-service teacher, write your own philosophy on the approach you want to pursue in your
art program. Explain your reason in detail.
 My philosophy is Everyone in the classroom contributes as a student, teacher, and thinker. I learn
from students as much as they learn from me. One way I emphasize this philosophy in my classes is
to incorporate regular feedback from students. For example, I ask students to fill out a mid-course
evaluation of the class, in which they reflect on the course goals and provide feedback on whether or
not the course is helping them meet these goals thus far. Students have been so insightful, providing
useful information for me on what is working in class, and what I can improve upon. I believe we
never stop learning, and I want my students to know we can learn from each other.

LESSON 2: OBJECTIVE OF ART EDUCATION

Reflect on the importance of art to education and teaching.
 The arts encourage collaborative relationships. Creativity comes in many forms and on many levels.
Arts integration is using the arts to teach and understand other subjects, such as math, science,
english and social studies, while gaining proficiency in both. Integrating the arts into core academics
through experience or project-based learning results through the arts treated as important core
subjects.

 CHECK YOUR UNDERSTANDING

Post-Activity Assesment
Cite significant examples you have been realized after we discussed these values. Your answer
must be in paragraph form.

The importance of art education is can be understood through the habits that the student form.
Students discover new things while creating art, and they are then able to adapt the new knowledge
in daily life. The important thing is children can apply what they learn in art classes to everyday life.
Their thought processes develop greatly. Students begin to approach everything creativity and this
will even help them in other classes such as English. Habits are formed from trial and error in
projects. Art projects teach children the value of learning how to make effective solutions and learn
from them. Art education is essential for growth and development because children not only express
creativity but, they learn important life lesson as well.

Research on different instructional strategies in teaching visual arts. Study the principles on
how they be applied in teaching elementary grade.

Teaching Strategies How can it be applied in teaching visual arts.

Think-aloud Think aloud are used to model comprehension

processes such as making predictions,creating
images, linking information in text with prior
knowledge,monitoring comprehension,and
overcoming problems with word recognition or
comprehension

Visualization Visualization enhances attention because it keeps

the audience focused on the subject matter. For
example, when students visualize the content of a
lesson or a passage that they are reading,
comprehension increases dramatically.

Modelling Modeling provides clear picture in a student's

mind as to how to handle the task at hand.
Creating a picture in a student's mind will give the
student confidence in how to complete the
assignment.

Guided Exploration In a guided exploration approach, a teacher works

alongside students during visual arts experiences
to support observation and listening skills, to
encourage artistic expression, and to consider the
aesthetic qualities in art.
