IV. PROCEDURES
A. Reviewing previous lesson or In economics, there is a certain law called law of supply and demand. The
presenting the new lesson law of supply states that as the price increases, the production of the
goods and services of the suppliers also increases.

Let’s prove this theory with this problem:

Problem: Mangoes are sold per piece by a reseller. If a piece of mango is

sold for 7 Php, how much will you pay for 2 pcs? 3pcs? 4pcs? 6 pcs? To
solve for the solution, we can use the table of values.

Pieces of
2 3 4 6
Mangoes (x)
Cost (y)

B. Establishing a purpose for the The relationship between the pieces of mangoes and its corresponding
lesson cost can be written as y =7x. This equation is an example of a
linear equation in two variables
C. Presenting examples / A linear equation in two variables is an equation that can be written in the form
instances of the new lesson ax + by = c where a, b, and c are real numbers but a and b cannot both be zero.

The equation y = 7x can be written in the form ax + by = c, thus it is equivalent

to-7x + y = 0.

D. Discussing new concepts and Tell the following whether linear equation or not.
practicing new skills #1
1. x + 2 = 5 Not a linear equation in two variables
2. y = -3x + 4 A linear euation in two variables
3. x2 + 3y = 10 Not a linear equation in two variables
4. 4x-5y = -2 A linear euation in two variables
5. y = -2x A linear euation in two variables
E. Discussing new concepts and Solution of a Linear Equation in two variables – is an ordered pair (x,
practicing new skills #2 y) that makes a TRUE mathematical statement of the equation

Identify the solution of x + y = 4

a. (2, 2) b. (1,3) c. (8,-4) d. (-2, -2)
Solution:
a. (2, 2) b. (1,3) c. (8, -4) d. (-2, -2)
x+y=4 x+y=4 x+y=4 x+y=4
2+2=4 1+3=4 8 + (-4) = 4 (-2) + (-2) = 4
4 = 4 true 4 = 4 true 4 = 4 true -4 = 4 false
(2,2), (1,3), and (8, -4) are the solution of the linear equation x + y = 4,
while (-2, -2) is not a solution to x + y = 4.
Note: Give more examples to the students
F. Developing Mastery (Leads to A. Identify the following whether linear equation in two variables or not.
Formative Assessment 3)
1. 2x + 4y = 3
2. y = -2x +4
3. x2 + 3y = -12
4. y + 10 = 12
5. x – 0 = 10
B. Identify the solution of the following linear equation in two variables
1. 2x + 4y = 8
a. (2, 1) b. (2,2) c. (-2, 3)
2. 3x – 2y = 10
a. (4,1) b. (-2,1) c. (1, 4)
G. Finding practical applications Where can we apply linear equation in two variables?
of concepts and skills in daily living
H. Making generalizations and What is linear equation in two variables?
abstractions about the lessons
