Sixth Form Scholarship Application Letter

Justin Yong Siyuan Form Class 11K Garden International School Mr. Graham Wilson Head of Secondary Garden International School
Dear Mr. Wilson, I am a year 11 student who would like to study my A-levels in GIS for the upcoming year. Moreover, I would like to apply for the Sixth Form Scholarships that GIS offers. The main reason I decided to further my studies in GIS is because of the high standard of education provided, evident throughout the 5 years I have been studying in the school. In fact, I take great pride in being a student in GIS. Besides that, I also hope to continue participating in the activities that I enjoy doing. One of these is playing tennis in the school Dragon s team. Representing the school in competitions has trained me to overcome stress and work well with others in a team. Moreover, I am currently working hard to pursue the Continuing Silver International Award which helps to develop my leadership skills and my independence. I wish to continue serving the community and the school as a prefect, organizing Mufti Day and raising funds for the need. It has been a very good learning experience as I managed to improve my communication and my time management skills. I am strongly interested in the flexibility of the subjects offered in GIS as I aim to enter both the science and the engineering field whilst also taking Economics to increase my general knowledge that will be helpful in the future. My choices provide me with a broad variety of skills as well as complementing each other to develop my knowledge. After completing my A-Levels in GIS, I plan to pursue a course related to science in university. I believed that GIS has the capability of providing me with the essential resources and information that I require for my career path. Studying in GIS for 5 academic years has already bestowed my parents with huge amounts of financial pressure, who are struggling to improve our lives. However, to achieve my dreams and a brighter future, they are keen to allow me to join the Sixth Form in GIS, anticipating the chance of being granted a scholarship. Therefore, being awarded this scholarship will greatly ease our family financial burden. On the whole, thank you for taking the time to read this letter and I am looking forward to a favourable response from your side. Yours Sincerely, Justin Yong

Supporting Statement. These are a few details that I believe will be relevant to my application. I will be taking 9 subjects in June, consisting of English Language, English Literature, Add Maths, Triple Science, History, Malay and Economics. According to my mock exams, my predicted grades would be 4A*s and 5 A s. On the other hand, I have already completed 3 subjects; ICT, Math and Mandarin of which I have achieve A* s which means that I will finish Year 11 with a total of 12 subjects. Besides academically activities, I also focus my time in physical and co-curriculum activities. I have taken part in many CCA s such as Interact Club, MUN, Refugees Teaching, Free Style Martial Arts, International Award and Dragon s Tennis. I am very friendly, enthusiastic, and I enjoy helping the community. As a prefect, I have been trained to communicate with people, take high responsibility in school and help the community. I have helped organize activities such as Mufti Day, helped to sort out Parents Teachers Conferences and even worked as an admin for KLMUN. I enjoy taking part in community service as I often volunteer to educate and play with refugees. During Discovery Week last year, I joined Bless KL to organise a Mini Mufti Day for refugees and it turned out to be very successful. Seeing the smiles on their faces was truly a rewarding experience. As for physical activities, I have taken part in many tennis competitions on behalf of the school such as UWCSEA, ISAKL and MSSKL. Last year, I have also been chosen to join the swimming team for the ISAKL competition because of my past records for swimming gala. I am also learning free style martial arts for self defence and to improve my fitness. Being active in school has been truly beneficial for me. Taking part in International Award has trained me to work collectively in a group, and built up my teamwork and leadership skills, all essential skills for my future. I have embarked on several expeditions that have granted me the experience to face tough challenges in life. Representing the school for World s Scholars Cup has also helped me to sharpen my public speaking skills and my confidence. Being the Financial Direct of Connect (Interact) Club, I have dealt with many problems and carrying high responsibilities. Though demanding, my determination has proved itself successful. Throughout my time in GIS, I have learned to become a more confident and better individual. I am grateful because the school has provided me the exposure to develop my skills so that I can understand more about the workings of the real world and the values of life. Therefore, I hope to be offered the chance to stay in GIS for a longer period of time in order to face more learning opportunities. Justin Yong 11K
