Information and Communications Technology is basically our society’s efforts to know the current and
emerging technologies valuable to their knowledge and skills around run on them and systems that are built
with them. Though people are ready to adopt changes brought by technology, problem occurs on Network
Readiness Index for Web 3.0 here in the Philippines. Research shows that the Philippines has been declining
steadily in NRI ranking over the years, as indicated in the Global Information Technology Report (GITR) by
the World Economic Forum. From 58th place in 2002, it is down to 86th out of 144 in 2013 (GDG
Zamboanga, 2013).

IMPORTANCE OF ICT IN PHILIPPINE SOCIETY

• Archipelagic country- improves connectivity: there was the ultimate belief that ICT usage will make
each country to become part of the global trend, Web 3.0.
• Improve productivity and efficiency; the most appropriate technologies were seen as the ones that
enabled the communities and organizations to communicate more efficiently:
o Different where ICT functions are applied.
1. Government and governance- there was the belief that ICTs help to monitor crime in
society
2. Education- among university academics, ICTs help them reach out to colleagues in other
parts of the world and keep them up to date with developments in their disciplines
3. Economy- here was a high belief in ICT ability to increase the ease and speed of social
communication and at the same time obviate the problem of transportation and can solve
socio-economic problems
4. Employment- instantaneous availability of data for possible career opportunities through
ICTs
5. Industries- ICTs were generally seen as the basic tool for survival in the next century
6. Small business- ICTs were seen to enhance efficiency in the workplace

Access the World Wide Web. Use browser such as Google chrome, Firefox, or Internet explorer to navigate on a website.
If you have Facebook account, open your profile and try to communicate with your friends and share your experiences
for the day. Also, if you have your Gmail account, open your Google drive and create a document file using Google
docs. Share the file with your friends and try to collaborate with them.

After doing the above-mentioned instructions, perform the ff. activities.

1. Find a partner with whom you can discuss your learning experiences in using online system (eg. google drive, fb,
gmail ) when collaborating with your friends.
