WHY STUDY THIS?
• it instills in our youth a sense of patriotism for our
country
• to be socially aware and responsible individual
members of the community
• aimed at enhancing civic consciousness
• defense preparedness in the youth by developing the
ethics of service and patriotism

• To promote and integrate values education

development, community building, national renewal,
and global solidarity.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Manuel Quezon
• Signed the Commonwealth Act. #1: the National Defense
Act of 1935

• Coverage: To provide obligatory military service for all


male citizens of ages 18 to 50 as part of the independent
Philippine Military during the outbreak of World War 2

• Reserve Training Program: Training aims to produce


20,000 men in 22 weeks. The first group of 20,000 troops
was drafted on January 1, 1937, and there were 4,800 officers
and 104,000 enlisted men in the reserves by 1939.

Ferdinand Edralin Marcos

• Signed the Presidential Decree #1706:: the National


Service Law of 1980

• Coverage: It made national service obligatory for all


Filipino citizens and specified 3 categories of national
service: civic welfare service, law enforcement service
and military service.

• Reserve Training Program: Each citizen shall render


national service in any of the 3 main programs provided that
such service shall be credited as a fulfillment of his/her
educational requirements. Training will last for 4
semesters.
Corazon C. Aquino

• Signed the Republic Act: 7077 the Citizen Armed


Forces of the Philippines Reservist Act of 1991

• Coverage: It made national service part of the


higher education for all Filipino college students
which allows them to be trained in any of the 3
categories of national service: civic welfare service,
literacy service and mandatory military service
for male students.

• Reserve Training Program: Each trainee shall


render national service in any of the 3 main programs
for 2 semesters and shall be credited as an
educational requirement.
Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo
• Signed the Republic Act 9163: The NSTP Act of
2001

• Coverage: It requires all Filipino college students of


any baccalaureate degree or technical vocational
course in public or private institutions to render
service in either components: Civic Welfare Training
Service, Literacy Training Service, or Reserve Officer
Training Corps for 2 semesters

• Reserve Training Program: The program was


able to produce 10,614,000 CWTS, 538,700 LTS
and 1,435,000 ROTC graduates in 2012.

• involves disaster preparedness during
fire, earthquake or other calamity that
needs immediate response from any
trained civilians during emergency
situations

• Basic life saving seminar, fire drill and


the like are some of the examples.

• involves enhancement of institutional
support materials and facilities for the
community and school.

• provide materials containing basic


literacy skills for pre-schoolers

• alternative learning system for out-of-


school youths and adults, mathematics
and science tutorials and extended
services of skilled students
