CoViD-19 Awareness

The COVID-19 or Corona Virus Disease 2019 is a highly infectious disease caused by a
recently discovered strain of corona virus. It originated in Wuhan, China where thousands were
infected prior to the pandemic. Nowadays, the COVID-19 has devastated almost every country,
affected millions of people and caused widespread infections and deaths. The pandemic greatly
affected different countries, including big countries like USA, Russia, and the country where it
came from, which is China. Lockdowns were imposed and strict health and safety protocols are
implemented to reduce and prevent further infection.
The infection rate is alarming, due to the fact it is gradually increasing. Here, in the
Philippines the total cases are already 35,046 (as of 24 September - 7 October) compared to
previous data which is only at 20,000+. Isolation and quarantine protocols are also implemented
to secure the infected and to observe the symptoms and by taking medications. Unfortunately, as
of the moment, there are still no vaccine for the COVID-19However, some countries have
"flattened the curve" or allows healthcare services to better manage the same volume of patients.
Health and safety protocols vary from countries, as the government and health workers
instruct the people on how to deal with COVID-19. For instance, PPE or Personal Protective
Equipment is required for frontliners to wear in order to protect the body from contracting the
virus. Enhanced personal hygiene is also strictly implemented like washing your hands, clothes
and other personal belongings before and after you go outside your home.
The Personal Protective Equipment are composed of face mask, face shield, and other
waterproof clothing. By wearing PPE, the chance of getting infected by the virus is reduced by a
significant amount.
Physical contact and social distancing are also observed throughout the world. Because
the virus is highly infectious, any kind or forms of physical contact is discouraged during the
pandemic. This also cause any kind of social gatherings to be postponed.
The COVID-19 pandemic has taught us to become fully aware about viruses and other
infectious diseases. The virus itself is deadly and will cause devastating death if unattended. We
are also becoming aware to boost our immunity by maintaining our healthy living to fight off the
virus if ever we got infected.
Researches indicate that the vaccine is still on the works. We are still hoping for the better to
return to our normal lives.
