 Review
Kim:
Before we start our new lesson, let’s review your lesson last
Teacher it’s all about
meeting with Ma’am Fely. So, what is again your topic last meeting?
Addition without
Anyone?
regrouping

Very Good Kim, Now what is the Addition without regrouping? Kate:
Teacher, Addition
Who want to answer? Anyone?
without regrouping is to
place the addends one
on top of the other so
that the place values
fall in the same
columns.

Very good Kate.

addition without regrouping:
1. Use the place value system, align the ones, the tens, the
hundreds and thousands
2. Add the ones first, then, add the tens. Next, add the hundreds,
and lastly, add the thousands.

1324 673 3043

+ 402 +315 +1 652
17 2 6

 Motivation
Math Riddles
What number should be inside the fourth one?
3 2 1 2
Student:
9 teacher
6 9 7 ?
2 1 4 3 4 2 5 1

Very Good. How did you get that answer?

Student:
We add the numbers
each side teacher.

Okay Very good. Now, do you have an idea what is our topic for today? Ariel:
Addition teacher

Okay Very good Ariel.

B. Lesson Proper

Discussion
(The teacher will explain and discuss addition with regroupings)
Today, we are going to discuss all about addition with regroupings

Mark:
What is Addition? Addition is a process
of combining two or
more numbers.
Mark Can you please read. Addends are the
numbers added, and
the result or the final
answer we get after
the process is called
the sum.

2+3=5

Addends Sum

Example:
(Read altogether class)

I’ve made 486 cookies. I need to bake 355 more. How many cookies will
there be in all?

486 teacher
What is the first given class?

355 teacher
What is the second given?

How many cookies

What is asked in the problem?
will there be in all?
Okay very good so we need to add the two given number so that we will
know how many cookies will there be in all by placing each digit
according to their place value.

Hundreds Tens Ones

486

355

Combined, we have the following number of MABS for each place value.
If there is more than 9 in each place value, we regroup 10 of the MAB
and replace them with the next higher-valued MAB.

Hundreds Tens Ones

Steps in adding whole numbers with regrouping:

Step 1: Arrange the number vertically
Step 2: add the ones first. Then add the tens. Next add the hundreds,
and lastly add the thousands if any
Step 3: ask yourself if the answer is…
9 or less, let it rest
10 or more regroup next door.

486
+ 355
841
The sum is 841. Yes Teacher.

Did you understand class?

Okay another example but this time I want somebody to answer in front.

Okay Kyle please stand up.

2.) During a typhoon, there were 723 adults and 267 children who were
rescued. How many persons were rescued?

Next, who want to answer the problem?

Okay Liah, please stand up.

3.) In a farm, there are 2 456 chickens and 387 ducks. How many Liah: Me teacher
chicken and ducks are there in all?

C. Generalization Dave:

Where do we commonly see Addition in a real world? When we count money

teacher.

Very Good Dave. Correct!

When we count our money is most common uses of addition. For
example, adding up bills and receipts typically receipt from a
supermarket, adds all the individual prices to find the total amount Student: Yes Teacher
and more. Right class?

Why do we need to study about the Addition? (State the

importance of Addition in real life)

Yes Bryan please stand up! Bryan: to solve many

different kinds of
problems teacher.

Very Good Bryan. Correct! It is one of the most important

mathematical functions we use in our everyday activities like to
solve many different kinds of problems.

D. Application

Group Activity
(Show me board)

Go to your Mathematics group. And we will have an activity

Called a “Show me board”.
Instruction:
I will show you a problem on the board and you need to discuss it with
your group mates and I will give you a 1 minute to solve that problem
and after that you will write your answer in a paper make sure it is clear
and raise your answer. Every correct answer is 5 points.
Yes teacher!
Is it clear class?
Yes, we are ready
Now, are you ready? teacher!

Problem of the Day:

5. Rachel bought 1 297 toffees and 965 baloons. Find the total
number of things did she buy?

IV. Evaluation

Arrange the following pairs of numbers in vertical order and get

the sum.

1. 265 + 645=
2. 1217 + 683=
3. 4756 + 2942=
4. 8370 + 649=
